Look, I know this is going to sound hard for you to hear, Hedwig, but this dog is going to DIE. Whether it be of old age 10 years from now, or being PTS.

If you need to start from square one, then you start from square one. BOND with him again. There's no telling what happened to him in those 3 weeks. He could have been beaten or pulled on by those kids or the owners never bothered to do training routines with him.

You need to start from square 1 again. It's not you're fault, but it ISN'T Bruno's fault, either. Take 2 or 3 days and don't train him, just sit and hang with him. Talk to him.

After that, train him. If he's gonna walk out that door before you, you shut that door and tell him no before he's out.

It takes effort and companionship to raise a dog.

Skittledoo, someone said she should stick to reptiles. I was thinking more along the lines of a rock, but whatever.
Ah lol... a rock was on my mind too. We'll call him fred. Fred the rock. He comes fully house trained and you don't have to worry about him biting.

The only pet rocks I can have in the house are the aquatic kind that like to live in fountains ;)

My Gonzo cat had a pet rock. Seriously. He'd lay there for hours and lick this one rock I'd had sitting on a shelf, so I let him keep it on his favorite corner of the couch.

poor rock. Glad you kept it. Goober hasn't found a rock he likes yet, but he loves my fish tank... and there's no fish in there yet

Hedwig I thought I'd let you know you are not the only one in that boat. Bandit was left at my house when I did a good thing and took him out of my friend's yard when they left him there with no care while they went on vacation. They promised they'd pick him up. They never did.

He was aggressive when he first came home with me. I already had a pup and was in way over my head. The only help I could find made him worse. Physical corrections and the other things you described caused him to lash out. I did get bit. Bandit put me through he.ll. Now he is my best behaved and most cherished dog. A dog's behavior can change. You do, however, need to stop placing the blame all over. Wipe the slate clean and start new. Both you and the dog need it.

You have to bond with the dog. If Bruno is anything like Bandit he needs to love his leader. After bonding with him then the training can begin. You may need to seek professional help. I got lucky. I took advice from many of the wonderful people here. Bandit got better. A THOUSAND TIMES BETTER! I considered putting him to sleep because I had never seen such a young pup be so aggressive.

You can get through it. You just have to want it. More then anything. There are still days when I cry my eyes out because Spanky can be difficult. He's worth the struggle. You have to be strong for yourself but even more important you have to be strong for Bruno. It's not about you anymore. There is another life at risk. A life, despite you not willingly taking it on, that you are responsible for.

A ruddy rock named pete? can i try and skim my pond with it? lol

And he is going to a doctor/behavy think i dont want to try spellin it again and a trainer.

Down where he is, they have several catergories sorta thing. different departements.

the boarding kennels, agility course, vet centre, aggressive dog unit, behavehoiur area, basic training area.

And rehab i think, rehoming.

He said he will go vets first and be tested up, then just let him get to no the handlers for a few days and bond with them, then its basic obedience and then the behavourist comes in and diagnoses his problems and then they go about straightening him out.
then he said he could go about training in different areas after thats sorted, like agility, and swimming, and training him to bark and growl at intruders, and train him to pull things and carry things, etc or even train him to gaurd farm animals, then when a trainer requests a home for a certain dog in those areas he will be rehomed into their homes probably, who will carry it all on in a new home.

For some weird reason I dont believe this dog is going to see ANY trainer... or a trainer thats going to train him how to swim for that matter.

I think Hedwig needs to start being honest here.

If you are going to drop him off at the shelter, put him to sleep, or rehome him again... then tell us instead of coming up with some kind of story.

I think you have gotten some great advice. If the dog bites at people as bad as you say, then why would someone with a 6 year old adopt him? I think you are exaggerating his aggression to get us to agree with giving up on him.

Just my personal opinion. ;)
