I am a HORRIBLE nail biter. My mom has been trying to make me stop for the last 12 years... she hits my hand in I am biting my nails, but it has not worked. We tried everything, nothing works.

It tends to only be if I am bored or anxious, though.

I chew my nails, not as bad as some of you though lol. The only time they get to the point of bleeding is when the nail comes off wrong and the side of it pulls. But yeah, I chew daily I think... maybe even multiple times.

I did grow them out for 2-3 months... but the entire time I wanted to chew them SO BAD. My nails are super thin so they were always bending back (they didn't really break, just bent back...) And I finally gave in ha. I've had fake nails a couple times... drove me insane. I took the 1st set off within a week, and I took the 2nd set off 2 days later!

Nail filing is the worst for me. The sound of it is just horrible.... I seriously almost throw up if people start filing or picking their nails in front of me. My sister is a horrible nail biter and she'd get mad at me for yelling at her to stop it.
I cant STAND to hear nail fling, freaking UGH! That and picking their nails with their other nails, the click click click sound is just so EW to me. Which is odd since I chew mine. It's just the sound to me, I don't know why. But that is the grossest sound EVER.

I can't deal with the sound of nail filing. Ugh. I ask Ian to do it away from me when he does it.

It goes right through me. Same with the sound of a broom sweeping on cement *shudders*

I have thought about doing the fake nails thing so I stop biting them for a bit.... but I move boxes at my job. That would not go over too well lol

I've never been a nail biter... ever... in fact, I'm fortunate also to have really nice nails. When they grow long people think they are fake nails because they grow so well and they're thick... but I usually just keep them clipped short with nail clippers because I don't like having long nails

I'm a reformed nail biter, on a backslide.

From as young as I can remember I bit my nails viciously. I see pictures of the way my nails used to look and get so grossed out. I stopped biting my nails 3 years ago and have had long, strong, beautiful nails that I've been so proud of. I've been REALLY good about it until very very recently. My pinky nail on my left hand has been bitten off since just after the wedding. Just that one nail, but it's BAD! I don't understand it.

Ugh, I've been biting my nails since I was about 7 and I've never been able to stop. It's really bad, too, with lots of bleeding and my cuticles are wrecked. I've painted them to keep from biting and they grow out for a week or two, but I always cave in.

I'm thinking about buying some bitter apple for myself, lol.

Used to be. Not anymore. It was one of those habits that was hard to break when I wasn't truly set on it. But like most other habits, once I got over the initial hump, it hasn't been a problem since. Now I always keep my nails painted, even if just with clear polish, and they're pretty long. I clip and file them to keep them at a good length. totally random question, but do you all with nail file phobias dremel your dogs nails?

No, I bought a Pedi-Paws before I knew they were crap. Then returned it. I know there are better dremels out now butttt I rather cut dog nails the regular way anyway, much faster.

I have never had the desire to bite my nails. They are just too hard. I really hate having any white part on my nail, so they are always clipped short. Must be the violinist in me.

I used to bite mine. Now I keep them filed and smooth so I'm not tempted to bite off a rough edge, which is how it always used to start with me.

BLT!

Sometimes I bite my nails, moreso if I'm bored and notice they are crooked I'll straighten them up. I never use nail clippers on my fingernails, I either just chew them off when when they are too long and I usually break them off at work after opening 9248923758479824365 cans of rum for people. I just let them grow and I love how they are all different lengths all the time.
Plus I really can't stand the feeling of my nails short, if I place my fingers vertically on a surface and can feel my fingertip skin touching it grosses me out. That said my nails are alonly a few mm over the edge.

My nervous habit its scratching, if I'm really uncomfortable I'll just scratch at my arms or chest.

Oh man, I bite my nails way too much.
I don't really know how it started, but I've been doing it for as long as I remember. Another favorite of mine is chipping and peeling the nail polish I have on...

Just thought I should add... Raja bites her nails. Only her front ones, though. I never have to clip them.

I used to some when I was younger, but not anymore. My nails are really thick and it hurts my teeth to bite them. I like to keep them clipped short though, because I play guitar and they get annoying. And they grow REALLY fast (as does my hair) so I have to clip them often. I do keep them painted most of the time though. I love nail polish. :p

Izzy does this! She bites her front dews only though. I knew she was part of the family when she started biting her nails lol.

I have been good about keeeping them painted for the last two weeks but omg I keep torturing my cuticles and how have three ripped off hangnail wounds.... I also have a habit of biting the skin to tht left or right of my nail when I know I can't bite my nail...

Right now I'm wearing Revlon Cloud to keep my biting in check!!

Same here. Like when I paint my nails to keep from biting I bite the skin around it, which is bad, and it invariably leads to biting my nail anyway.
