I have the hardest time telling the difference between a hound-type working Fila and a Bloodhound! Only thing I've noticed is the fact that Filas usually have wider-set eyes than the Bloodhounds. Whatever it is, that dog is adorable :D I want it.
That one looks more Fila, especially if you look at how articulated those feet are. It's hard to tell sometimes, though :)

It can be really difficult to tell them apart sometimes, especially if you can't see the hindquarters or get a good look at the length of the ears.
I am sure...Hey! I think we need some new pics of Kharma! :D

Yeah . . . I need to take some of her now that she's almost grown up. She turned three January 19. She's still got some filling out to do, but she's really turning into a spectacular Fila - everything I'd want to see in one, physically and mentally.

Really! Aww! Are you going to compete with her or anything?

Can't wait for some pics of her, and Shiva and Bimmer too ;)

Kharma, like any good Fila, is far too willful for competitions, lol! You'll never see REAL Fila with an obedience title, and as far as agility goes, even though they are easily as fast as a large Doberman and more agile, they're idea of handling obstacles is to ignore the puny things and just crush right through, leaving a wake of destruction

The herding people don't want us around. They wouldn't even talk to me once I told them I had a Fila. Stopped returning e-mails.

Now, if there were varmint hunting competitions, that would be another story!

As far as conformation goes, that's kind of silly, in my viewpoint, for the Fila, as the Fila breeders who are true to the heritage of the working Fila breed for what's inside the dog first; temperament, heart, ojeriza, fearlessness, absolute loyalty, intelligence, discernment and judgment, working abilities, a high degree of self-determination and, yes, a good streak of stubbornness; then for physical capabilities; strength, stamina, agility, speed, a ridiculously high pain threshold, soundness, health. The last consideration is what the dog looks like or how long it is from here to there, or where the ears are set exactly or how far apart the eyes are.

LOL, But sounds just like Kharma! LOL I can just picture Kharma in the Agility ring, crashing through all the obstacles, and then waiting for her award :D

That's sad.....wonder why?

Souds like the BC Ring....sad really, breeding for looks and not for what they were really bred to do.

I think you'll find that the working Fila "community" is a lot like that in Border Collies, Lizmo. :) The real patrons of the breed care more about what's inside their dogs' heads than the shape of the eyes, length of the ears and width of the skull.

Heheh, just a shame some poeple have done this to the breed. :( Such a great breed.
