Here are some more pictures of Keira that I took earlier this evening. I know I just posted a thread, but I like these pictures better so I thought I'd post them also for those who want to see them! It's so hard to get good pictures of her. She's so energetic and has a terrible attention span. Yes, Dobe people, she does have a bit of a pocket (again) and her ears will be getting reposted tomorrow night. We were supposed to tonight, but couldn't for some reason.

That's all for a while! Excuse the gluey stuff on her ears. That's from her tape that she had on and I can't get it all off.

Shes cute. You can really see Sues breeding in her head. You asked me a while ago if you had her stacked right. If I remember rightly you did. Just remember front legs strait and parellel and back legs, the hocks should be strait up and down. Placed slightly wider than the front, but not to much. LOL

I was going to say it in the other thread, but I love her markings. They are so defined and even-colored, and VERY attractive on her.

She looks very serene... and in most of the pictures, very, very feminine. There's something in her forehead and eyes that strongly reminds me of Orson - and it's not just that they are both B&R Dobes, lol! I hope she grows into those ears, soon, lol. BTW why are they out of posts/tape? They don't look like they are standing correctly.

We had a dobe when I was growing up. I learned to walk holding on to her. I'd love to have another one, especially if she's as gorgeous as your little girl! How old is she, any way?

She's adorable. I LOVE the last picture... so can I steal her from you? I'll let you borrow Bamm if you let me borrow her. ;)

They are out of tape to give them a break. You have to change the posts every so often or they get stinky and can cause sores. At her stage I would have done it last night. But Toller said she couldnt get them done untill tonight. At her stage it whont hurt her.

Thanks everyone!

BTW why are they out of posts/tape? They don't look like they are standing correctly.
Because she was playing rough with the other dogs and one ear's tapes just fell off, so we had to take the rest off. And like Jenn said, at this age giving them a break isn't going to hurt them, though ideally they should've been put back in last night. They've only been out for about a day - they'll be getting put back on tonight. Her breeder posts them (I really should learn how, but I worry too much about not doing it right), and wasn't available until really late last night. They definitely aren't standing correctly, and it doesn't help that she doesn't have an overly nice crop as it is (well, in my opinion anyway). :)

I've been really bad about keeping track of her age in weeks, but she's about 4 months now.

Ooooh I didn't know that! You learn something new every day, lol! I always heard you're nevereverever supposed to take them out unless the tape is being changed.

Gorgeous Gorgeous little lady..........gah, she has such an expression in her eyes! I just love this little girl!

That depends on what stage in the ear training they are in, in some cases that is very true Nolu.........but her ears look as though they are standing somewhat on their own and could use a little break for airing :)

She's beautiful!!
How long do you have to tape a dobe pup's ears for?
It depends on things like ear cartilage strength and length of the crop. A shorter crop with more bell is going to stand easier and faster than a longer crop with not much bell. And genetics play the part in cartilage strength. There are things out there that claim to strengthen the cartilage, but I don't think any of them are proven to work or not work.

It can range from a couple weeks to a year! BIG difference huh? LOL

It really really depends on the style and length of crop, the posting method, the ear leather, the age at which the pup was cropped, the bloodlines behind the dog... lots of factors!

Ilsa's ears stood at 5 months.Though her crop utilized the whole ear, her ears were naturally very short, and the cropper left a larger bell than yuou'd see on a show crop, her cartilage was thin but not spongy, and she was cropped at 8 weeks. I could have posted longer to get ramrod-straight ears, but I was a novice and her ears looked "good to me" at 5 months. They "helicopter out" a bit at the tips, but that's common with a lot of dobe ears, so they look fine IMO.

Thank goodness I didn't have to post Ronin's ears! They're long and thin, with heavy cartilage. I don't know how long it took for them to stand, but I remember seeing him at 7 months with no posts and no "telltale signs" that he was still in posts - i.e. tape gunk, thinner hair.

I do know that when Ilsa was done posting (5 months), Ronin was still in posts.

Ronin at 5 months (same age that Ilsa was done)... still in posts. No idea who the lady stacking him is!
