All ours are chipped.

Brie & Mira came chipped (24PetWatch from the shelter, CAR from the breeder respectively)

I had Kim and Webster chipped, both at the vet shortly after I got them. HomeAgain.

Dance is chipped but I can't remember through whom... Avid, I think. Would have to look at her form again. She was chipped when she was spayed. Journey is chipped through 24PetWatch and was done while awake I think while still with her breeder. The Dobermans are not chipped but I wish they were. Might still do it. They have tattoos instead.

My two are chipped. They were done at the vet whilst getting desexed (much too early, I'm not a supporter of early desexing now).

Also, for me now I'd like to chip asap.

None of mine are chipped. Everywhere we go it seems the places all use different scanners so I never bothered. They all have several tags, and leashes never ever ever get attached to collars in our house collars are for tags only, except Gage's martingales, but the. He wears two collars, and the martingales have their own set if tags as well. All three have decent recalls as well.

All mine are chipped but I have no idea if the info is updated on them, come to think about it. I should probably check. I don't know where Zoie and Skye's microchips are from either.

Bailey is chipped, I wanted to get her chipped the day after I got her, there was SO many people who WANTED her it scared me  :rofl1: I check her info and upload a current pic every so often.

Maddie is not chipped, though. And I probably won't get her chipped.

Happy is the only one that is chipped, presumably when she came into the rescue, and awake. Hers is Avid.

None of the other pets are. I'm not worried about it. In the future I'll probably have it done during speuters, Juno was supposed to be done at her spay but I forgot to mention it. Despite the fact that I've chipped plenty of awake animals and they usually don't care, I hate the needle lol and would rather have mine be asleep.

All of my dogs are chipped, and any future dogs will be. It's not fool-proof but it is a good thing to have, especially since my dogs hike with me off-leash on a regular basis. They wear collars with id tags when we're out, but stuff happens and it's good for peace of mind.

All chipped. Bodhis was out of date for 90% of her life, but it's up to date now.

Reassuring if they ever slip their collars, or go missing or are stolen.

Siri is chipped, not sure through what company, which is sad considering it was done a couple weeks ago :p She was awake.

Frodo is not done, because I won't do it while he is awake. As soon as there is any reason for him to be put under again, he will be done.

I have heard this, but that was at least 8 or so years ago when I worked at a vet clinic. Does anyone know the validity of this?
I spoke to my vet about this and as it turns out, scanners can work for different chips.

Here is a field study on the exact issue http://indoorpet.osu.edu/veterinarians/microchip/index.cfm

It seems to be the general consensus that scanners aren't wired to only get info from a certain kind of chip, they pick up any pet identification chip at that frequency (which is most of them) and most of the time, (if the info on the chip is up to date), the right info gets tracked down.

The issue sometimes happens because while the chip is usually always found, different microchips are sometimes encrypted or you have to go through the kind of chip (/call the chip people) instead of it just popping up on the screen..

So while a homeagain scanner will read "Mary Smith 874-358-3582" for a home again chip, it might read "Petshome24 393258292502" on a pet with a petshome24 chip, and you have to CALL pets home and give them the number to GET the owner info.
Most pet chip companies operate 24/7 for this reason.

From what I understood.

I think most scanners will pick up other brands of chips. We switched microchip brands at work but use the scanner from the old brand, and have an even older scanner that the police use on impounds that come in. Never been an issue.

Both the dogs and the cat all a chipped.

Watson was done awake by his breeder and he was just fine. Menchi was done when under to be spayed.

The kitty came to us chipped from the shelter :)

Both dogs and the cat are microchipped. Missy has AVID, Jack has HomeAgain, and Sassy has PetLink. Missy was chipped by the rescue, Jack was chipped by his previous owner, and Sassy was chipped by my previous vet - I had no choice in the manufacturer of the chips.

I have no idea about Jack, but both Missy and Sassy were microchipped awake, and they did just fine. Their microchips are both snugly between their shoulder blades. Jack's is migratory and at last check, was near his front leg.

I haven't had any issues with any of the three companies, besides the initial pain it was to change Jack's microchip over to me when I got him.

All mine have been chipped. All were awake. None cared, not even my old guy, Elmo, who was a drama queen. Dogs don't have a lot of nerves in their scruff. Well, technically I don't know if Pirate and Eva (I had them both chipped before I placed Eva. As a breeder, I wouldn't place an unchipped dog.) fussed about their chips, they were done at a health clinic, and were taken in back for their chips. I don't imagine they cared, though.

Harlow was done less than a year ago... Before that, she had a BlanketID. She was awake... didn't seem to care. She is under AKC CAR.

Rider is not done. Apparently the vet that he had in Montana as a foster did not have them... I just haven't done it yet.

Foster Lucy has one. I don't know if she was awake/which company it is through.

Future ACD will get it done.. though I don't know when. Probably at one of our first visits to the vet for our wellness checkup.
