Its a fine car for the beginner, as are most compacts (Cobalt, Focus, Corolla, Civic). Insurance may be high though as there are faster versions of it and people do crash them at a higher rate.

A Mazda 3 would be a great beginner car. As long as you make sure your insurer knows it's not a Mazdaspeed 3, the insurance shouldn't be terrible. Compacts are great first cars, and great cars in general.

I really like Mazdas though, always have. The interior of the Mazda 3 is really fun and good looking too.

I don't know about the Mazda 3 but I really regret going for an Impala over a Mazda 6. That was a fine car in retrospect and they have an awesome shifter column. That and the one I drove was in cobalt blue. Very sexy.

Realistically, Dani, for a beginner car, you don't want to put yourself in anything new or too expensive. You're going to get a few dings here and there while you're really getting comfortable with driving.

85 Escort, thats a beginner car. Of course the tools to keep it up will be more than the cost of the car but its a learning experience.

Oh I just kind of assumed it was going to be a used, cheap Mazda 3. It is isn't it?

The first car I drove was a GeoStorm. Looked something like this (but smaller).

We bought it for $2k, got 8 years of use out of it between my sister and I. I wrecked it and screwed up the hood and we sold it for parts for $500. Then I got my Impala. I do kind of miss the Geo, though. It had character. A six cylinder that drove like a four...ahhh, memories.

GO, Thats because you probably lost 2 cylinders along the way.

While I agree that a used car is good, some areas of country do "encourage" new cars for a first car, even then the Mazda is fine, although a slightly used, pre-scratched version might be best :)

finding like a 2003 or something like that would likely be a better route then finding a 2007...
You're going to make mistakes with it, everybody does, and you're going to feel bad doing it to a brand new car.

My dad was buisness manager of the local mazda dealership. (he also has worked for honda, and ford) Mazda's seemed to be great cars, few issues etc. When I am done school I want a Mazda 5. (Currently I drive a 2003 V10 3/4 ton Ford Truck..great for pulling the horse trailer, way to expencive to cart a JRT to an agility trial)

While a new car for your first car maybe doesn't make perfect sense, there's no guarantee you're going to smash your first car. As long as you're careful, alert, and aware of you're surroundings and other people around you, chances are you'll be perfectly fine. And hey, if someone else does something really dumb, that's what insurance is for :D

Thanks for the advice everyone. I am considering a used Mazda3. My friend bought a used Protege. He likes it; it's in good condition, plus it didn't cost him tons of money hehe.

But I don't know if you would get those little french beauts over there.

That's what my little Clive is, and he is MOST definately a BEAST ;)

I love the threes! Just wish the speed three wasn't a hatch and I'd get the darn thing! I'm in love with the speed six but I'm a cheap butt so I'll be getting a three instead I'm sure:p Just be careful-but that goes for anything you drive.

The Renault Sport Clio V6 is nice :)

So are most of the cars you get there that we don't get here...
