We took Mav to the vet today for what we thought might be hot spots. It wasn't. He had been shot

And it just barely missed his hip bone. :(

It's hunting season so he probably got shot that way. Or maybe he pissed off a neighbour. I don't know. The neighbours we've met said he doesn't bother them but we haven't met them all.

He will be fine. He was incredibly lucky. It could have shattered his hip easily. And it's not that infected. The vet said their shouldn't be any problems. He has anti-biotics to take and I have to flush it with saline. He's a good boy. I have a pic of the wound with the scissors right through it.

Thanks Sparks. He was very brave. The vet said we should muzzle him while he was poking at it and steve said no he won't ever bite. And it's true. He just laid there and wimpered a little. :( Thankfully it didn't take long.

No it was totally clean. I had been putting peroxide on it (we couldn't get to an appointment until today) but it never crossed my mind that it was a bullet wound! Not until he got shaved. The vet didn't even know. Actually we will never know 100% that was just best guess.

It's a small caliber ammo, the most common is the .22 rifle. Good for killing small things like rabbits and squirrels.

Poor Mav! That's just terrible!

Oh and did I mention the part where we adopted a stray cat while it was there? The assistant (who's super nice) asked me if I wanted a cat. She was half joking, said it had been there since Halloween ( a black cat oooo). Anyway when we were leaving steve said we should have asked if it was neutered or not and we went back to check. It was a neutered male so they dewormed him and gave him his distemper for free and lent us a carrier and now he's ours. We named him Dexter so he could have a name on his file. He's super friendly but he likes to bit while he's loving. Weird cat.

A .22 is what Kharma got shot in the foot by, only the bullet that hit her was one of the loads that fragment. Mav was really lucky. You might ask your landlord if there's ever been a problem there before.

And you could write a column on your dog being shot . . . might make someone think twice before trying it again if it was on purpose.
