I think that's one of the more ridiculous things I have heard in my life. How old was this person? 4, 5?

Like you said, it is crap. Sadly that's set in many peoples minds, or that a dark color sets of a negative statement. That's why dark colored dogs are known to have less of a chance to get adopted from a shelter then the light colored ones. :(

Umm...ok. that is definately one of the weirder things I've heard. And I don't think that could possibly be true.

I have heard this before. When i was a kid, one of my father's friends told me that GSDs with dark faces and coats couldn't be trusted, but the ones with lighter colouring were fine. Even back, then (i was five or six) i looked at him and thought "you nutcase."

I have a chocolate lab with a very dark coat (she has been mistaken for a black lab many times and it's very hard to see her in the dark). She is the sweetest dog you will ever meet. When my neice and nephew were here, she let them climb on her, sit on her. I also have a light-colored dog, Colby, and she's a sweetheart too, but she can be a little brat at times. My border collie mix, Tippy, is sweet too but can be such a brat.

I've had a person tell me that you can tell the intelligence of a dog by how much black he has on the roof of his mouth. More black more intelligent, less black less intelligent LOL It's crazy some of the wives tales that are out there!

I believe that...as much as I believe what some old guy told me when I was about 12, "no matter how aggressive a dog is, if you rub him right between his eyes with your finger tip he will be your friend his whole life...even if he doesnt see you for 12 years he will remember you and love you."

The first thing I thought of when I saw the first post was of course Golden Retrievers...Today the lighter Goldens are used more in confirmation while the darker ones seem to excel in obedience and tracking. Confirmation's up to the judges opinions, while the later two have to do with scores. Meaness doesn't enter here... I have always found the darker Goldens are more atheletic and in to a " working" mood, while the lighter breedings just want to hang around and please. Either way, I love them all !

I was thinking of the differences I notice in Labs, mainly that the chocolates are absolutly insane and tend towards neurotic, while the blacks (well bred ones anyway) are usually calmer, while the yellows mellow out, but are very excitable.

Anymore though, most of the labs I run across are paper/pet store dogs and are just all nuts. There have only been a few that demonstrate that calm demeanor and sweetness that makes them the favorite breed of the service industry.

What if your dog is both dark and light.. does it have a bipolar personality>?
Yes. Look at my Border Collie. :D

Labs are one breed that I've found varies a lot as far as color goes. I've seen blacks be a little more intense, more protective and more laid back while yellows and chocolates seem more "birdy" to me. Just my observation though, I'm not an expert on the breed so I don't know. Perhaps it has just been the individuals that I've seen that seem similar.

I haven't been around any labs except my grand dogs..Rudy, the black lab, was always more protective and showed more agression early on. Both Yogi and now Hunter were more clowns who wanted to please. I've never personally known the choc., but I've heard they can be something else. Yet, the now owner of foster Kobe ( Golden) had a Choc that was her heart dog.

In my experience, the only difference between light and dark dogs is that the dark ones are a real pain to take pictures of inside :D

ROFL, ain't that the truth! Boomer was a dark shade of brown, almost looked black, when he was younger. In the pictures I've taken of him then, I referred him as my little brown blob. Can't decipher which end is the back or front. :D
