I'm horrible at judging dog weight, so I thought I'd ask. I was wondering if my little Voodoo is getting a bit *cough* fluffy. He's much broader/thicker than he was as a puppy. I can't tell if it's just him filling out, or if it's weight gain. He's still eating like a horse, and I'm wondering if I should cut back on his food a bit.

Sorry in advance for the bad pictures. I took these indoors at night with my junky camera. Voodoo hasn't learned stand/stay yet, so it's hard to get good profile shots without an assistant.

From the back...

And just for kicks, here's a few more.

"Zeus, outta the way! This is my photo shoot!"

"Awww. Don't I get a photo session, too? Please?"

And this one was just a nice head shot.

He weighs 70 lbs, but hasn't been to the vet lately. It's just in the last few months that I've noticed his extra thickening.

He doesn't look at all over-weight. I don't like seeing over weight dogs, but I don't like seeing to skinny a dog either. Dogs don't need to be showing their ribs or there about. ;)

You think so? Hmm. Maybe I'm just too used to my lean Zeus.

And speaking of Zeus, he is now very sad at his lack of photos tonight. He's such a poser. I'll see if I can do another photo session tomorrow, just for him.

Yup! I really don't like seeing skinny dogs, they NEED to have some "meat" (for a lack of a better word:p). LOL

Can't wait for those photos ;)

The best thing to help to see if a dog is overweight for photos from the top view. That way we can see the "waist" and overall shape. I still see tuckup on your dog, so it isn't too fat, if at all. The general rule is that you should easily feel the ribs without too much fat hanging onto the ribcage, and for many breeds of dogs the last 2 ribs should be slightly visible, as well as a definite waist where the ribcage ends and the rest of the body trims down. Some breeds however do not fit this, but my best guess is that yours probably should.

I think he looks pretty good too- can you feel his ribs under the skin? How tall is he?

I think he looks good, too! But Zeus looks awfully obese... I think you should post some more pics of him just to make sure he's not *hint hint* :)

Looks good to me...a mite too shiny though...quit waxing your dog! :D
Sorry, Zoom! He just loves the buffer so much....I can't get him away from it. :p

I can feel his ribs, but not as clearly as with Zeus. I haven't measured him in awhile. I know he's between 25-26" at the shoulder. Zeus is 26", and Voodoo's only a tiny bit shorter than he is now.

Oh no! I can't let my Zeusy Boy get all chunky on me! For the sake of my dog's health, I shall post pictures promptly. ;)

I think they are both gorgeous! They have the sweetest, most expressive faces. But yeah, I think his weight looks fine to me too.
