HI MY DOG (PRECIOUS-BULLBOXER) IS IN HER FIRST HEAT AND WAS AROUND MY MALE(CHARLIE BROWN-MOUNTAIN CUR). SHE IS STILL BLEEDING BUT HER BELLY LOOKS A LITTLE BIGGER, NIPPLES ARE HARDER, WANTS MY ATTENTION (NOT MY HUSBANDS) ALL THE TIME. SHE ALSO PUTS MY SHEET OR PILLOW BETWEEN HER FEET AND SUCKS ON IT LIKE A NIPPLE. WHEN WE GIVE HER TREATS SHE WILL TAKE IT IN THE OTHER ROOM (SHE HAS NEVER DONE THAT). IS SHE PREGNANT? CAN SHE STILL BLEED IF SHE;S PREGO? PLEASE HELP I NEED TO KNOW SO I CAN GET A PUPPY IF SHE IS NOT.

Once you find out whether she is pregnant or not, and she is finished cycling, the best thing to do is have her spayed. That way, you will never worry about her becoming a momma.

The male isn't neutered? Both those dogs need to get fixed before you think about getting another puppy. Your vet can tell you if she's pregnant or not.

Been thinking...we're you planning to breed ??? And why ??? You are breeding mutts. No, a female still in heat doesn't get a swollen belly and extended teats . Why do you need another puppy when you haven't been a responsible owner to the first two ? No one breeds a female in her 1st heat . We're here to educate you, not knock you if you didn't know better. Please give us more facts.

For the most part bitches still bleeding are not receptive for breeding.
If you saw them lock up, there is always that possiblity.

If she is still in heat, you would not see any pregnancy signs yet. Just in heat signs such as swollen vulva, nipples could enlarge too. But this is just signs of heat. Her belly would not enlarge till much later in the pregnancy.

You should never let a dog breed on her first heat. The dog is still maturing and growing. The best thing you could do is seperate her from your male dog for at least two maybe three more weeks. Then give her a couple months to get back to normal, then spay her. The most important thing is to keep the two dogs away from each other.

There are so many mutts in shelters and pounds that are killed everyday. I hope you would not want that for future puppies your dog might whelp.

There is no unselfish reasons why you should breed these two dogs.
I hope you do the right thing.

Why do you want another pup if you haven't even nuetered, spayed the ones you have?

Again, people diving in with assumptions!!!

If you read the post it clearly says the bitch was around the dog - not put with the dog.

I know that I have been advised to wait for Bodhi's first heat before I have her spayed, so it is not unusual that the dog is not spayed yet.

Accidents DO happen - not everyone has the benefit of X years of dog ownership.

Really bothers me, the clique-ness of answers here sometimes!

Do people just read what the person above has written before replying, or read the first post?

Well i dont know about the other but the last part made me wonder, I read and re-read the posts but sometimes the way things are written make you think twice, soem people dont seem very carefull when they have a male and female living together! Why does this person want another puppy only if she isnt pregnant? this makes it sound like that this was planned to get another pup!

Well I read the first post and all the others too. Then I wrote what I believe and what my experience has been.
The only reason imo to wait for a first heat to get spayed, is a medical problem such as inverted vulva. Otherwise I would spay a dog at about 6 months. Unless of course there is a question of breeding the dog. Or you are experienced with intact dogs and recognize and know what to do and not to do with the dogs. And are very responsible.

And if the bitch is in heat, it doesn't matter if they were put together purposely, or just have been around each other. The same thing will happen with either situation. And an intact dogs' owner should be very cautious and informed and educated!!

I agree with everyone else

I don't think they are jumping to conclusions. Having an unspayed female and an unneutered male is irresponsible no matter whether they were placed together or were just around each other. if her bitch is coming into her first heat WHY is the male anywhere near her?

Purposely or accidently bred..... IRRESPONSIBLE.

Or..... Perhaps.... (I am just speculating here) not EVERYONE understands the inner workings of how to own a dog. Everyone on this forum has the drive to sit here all day yacking dogs. You are the minority and never forget it, alot of people have the love but not the knowledge.

Fair enough, I can see your responce already - why have they got a dog if they don't know how to keep one, etc etc... Should we censor who has a dog? Maybe we shouldn't stop there, and hand pick who should have kids.

Maybe they love their dogs VERY much. Perhaps, this was the ONE over sight. Maybe, even, they were planning on spaying their dog and LIKE ME have been advised by their (extremely SKILLED in my case) vet to wait till after the 1st heat. Perhaps the dog got to the bitch by accident - should have been avoided, but, the world isn't perfect.

Perhaps, they are worried about their beloved pet enough to ASK ADVICE.

Perhaps they had planned to get another dog, and now this accident had happened, they are having to re-think.

THAT is what I read.

Perhaps I am wrong. But without meeting this person, or at least ASKING some QUESTIONS, I will never know.

yes maybe that are not fully imformed, but its their job to find out more info before getting the dog, and alos rescue centres and breeders should make the person buying the dog knows at least the bacics

I agree, maybe this person did not have all the knowledge but an intact male and an intact female is alot of responsiblity and breeding accidently or on purpose on the first heat is not a good idea.

However we all learn something new each day and joining dog forums is to learn. Maybe through this we/you have educated someone else.

Just a reminder: if they are crated side by side in wire crates they can breed. I know someone that happened too, and we are starting to wonder if that is a possiblity here with Hope. Hope loose and Storm in crate! Did something take place? It is looking so much like false preggy but only time will tell. She sure should look the part now if she came to us preggy and she does not!

Accidents do happen, the responsible thing would be to get the dog to the vet and discuss termination if she is at this point, simply based on the dogs age.

yep I agree with ya but i think the problem is people use the forums as a way out of going to the vet because its cheeper, and alot of us have different views on the subject, but sometimes when we read a post something does just not seem right. perhaps the poster could give some more info?

Maybe people could ask what they are unsure about, rather than fill in the blanks themselves. If the post is not clear - ask.

How it happened, is currently irrelevant. Deal with the situation at hand, and advice how it can be stopped from happening in the future.

If I am the only person that makes sense too.... well... I worry about what kind of advice people walk away with.
