Since I have band practice on Tuesdays, I always miss it. I like watching it because as a musician, I understand what the ones who actually have some talent are going through. Of course the bad auditions are great as well- you know they are pushing those people thru who will embarrass themselves because it brings in ratings.
A girl who was singing with my band went to audition in Philly. She has an incredible voice- as good as any of the girls who have made it to the top 10. She can rip stuff like Chaka Khan and Aretha Franklin like it's nothing. She didn't make it past the initial screening. Why? She had no angle. She was the typical girl who grew up singing in church. She didn't have any kids out of wedlock, no family tragedies, a normal stable upbringing- nothing that would set her apart from the other 1000 girls who sang in church growing up. She was really disappointed, but I knew she wouldn't make it on talent alone. They want stories behind the singers.
Apparently 2 guys from my area both made it thru, a 17 year old kid from my town, and a 20 year old from down the road.
