The last thing I wanna do is put you down, but I dont know if you're quite ready for a dog. A dog is an enormous investment of time, not to mention money and energy. Are your parents prepared to spend money on dog food, chew toys, vaccinations, spaying/neutering, regular vet visits? There is a whole list of things that a dog needs to be healthy and happy, and the time you spend together is one of them. I believe you said you're in fourth grade, right? School will take up a lot of time. Who will take care of the dog while you are away? Also, are you prepared to wake up at 5:00 am in the morning to walk your dog? Don't forget to bring a bag, because you will be responsible for cleaning up your friend's messes. That means poop work will be a part of keeping your friend healthy and keeping your neighborhood beautiful and poop-free. I am 14 years old and I'm in the ninth grade and I hought long ago that I was ready for a dog. Turns out I wasnt. I got my best friend(Peanut) a few weeks back and keeping her healthy and happy has been a struggle. I am also in school, and I have to manage my time very carefully to make sure that Peanut is taken care of. I sometimes choose to stay home instead of hanging out with my friends because I know that Peanut needs me. I hope things work out for the best, and I hope you give a lot of careful thought to the idea of having a dog in the house.
That's true Nedim, I believe I am ready for a dog. But then again, I don't know what to expect. My parents believe this will be good for me, because it will teach me responsibility (is that how you spell it?). It's very important to expect the worst, and I am doing that. Fortunately for me, my dad works at home! True, I will still be worried about my dog, but not as worried as I would without my dad's support.

All right Richie! You're awesome too. BIG HUGS to all our Chazhound young adults. You all work so hard to do right by your dogs. It makes me so happy and proud to know there are people like you who understand how wonderful animals are!! :D

It's important that before you get a dog, you realize how much time and money they take up. We spend around $4,000-$5,000 on veterinary care for our three every year. Yesterday we brought the girls to the vet and spent over $600 on checkups, titer, a rabies shot for Colby....

All i can say is puppies are a HUGE frustrating responsibility that should'nt be taken lightly.
You got that right! I have 2 puppies (9 months and 3 months) and then I have on adult dog that I rescued who is basically a puppy still herself. She isn't housebroken or obedience trained in the least bit (but we're working on it).

I'm Grammy, posting in at 72...you're safe with me, but you may not like my advice to you....waiting to see where you are going with this thread. You may be too young to take on the resposiblity of a dog. How about telling you parents that if they get a dog you'll help out ?

thx guys and how old r u
I am not trying to be mean, but... why do u care about a person's age. You probably didn't know but it can be quite rude to ask for a person's age... I am 12 turning 13 on Oct. 4th
