We're at the e-vet. He threw up twice and then immediately after started pacing, frantically eating everything he could (in this case leaves and mouthfuls of snow), making an odd gurgling/gulping noise, and occasionally whining, which is what worried me most. In almost a year the only time I've ever heard him whine was during his torsion back in April. Even when he cut his foot down to the bone, he didn't cry.

His temperature is slightly elevated. They're taking x-rays and doing blood work now. I'm still in debt from his last surgery but I'll cross that bridge when it comes to it. Right now I'm just very worried for my little dude. Any vibes, prayers and good thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys! We're home now. Blood work came back normal although he's a little dehydrated, and the x-rays revealed a build up of gas. Unfortunately, that's what caused his torsion last time :( But it is not as severe. They gave him 2 injections, one for nausea and one antacid. He is still licking his lips a lot, trying to eat stuff off the ground (and seems to be licking the carpet some too) and gulping, but the vet said I just need to watch him overnight. He is also running around and being his goofy self, instead of being lethargic like in April.

Hopefully the gas goes away instead of continuing to build up. No food for him tonight, and only small amounts of water. I'm still freaked out, but he's okay right now, and the vet didn't seem too worried. This dog is going to be the death of me!

Also, he expressed his anal glands at the vet, so now he smells just great on top of everything else

Yeah, I am totally freaked out :( The floor licking is obsessive now. I called the vet and they said it was odd, to put him somewhere he can't do it, and to bring him back in if things progress further, like if he starts throwing up again. I think he's licking everything to try to get something into his belly to induce vomiting. I'm in the bathroom with him now because it has the least hair he could possibly ingest. The licking is incessant though and it's driving me crazy. I have a feeling we'll be back at the vet some time tonight :(

Scary. =< I hope he's okay or they come up with something better than just a wait and see...

He's lying down now for the first time... I think he's actually been sleeping a bit. He does a bit of the smacking when he wakes up, but I think... tentatively... that we're out of the woods now. He's been passing some gas too, which, as awful as it is :lol-sign: is excellent and I hope that he continues to do it.

I think I'm going to go take a shower now. I've been too afraid to leave him alone for four hours now!

Zuma was doing this a month ago or so, with the addition to a hacking cough. She had some trauma in her esophagus from a treat/bone or something scratching on its way down. She was swallowing, lip licking and trying to eat everything she could. The e-vet gave us some sucraflate to help soothe her throat and it worked wonders. She was fine right away after and was great the next day.

Not saying that Riff has the same thing going, but figured I would share my experience! Sending vibes!

I appreciate the story, Sara! I'm glad Zuma recovered so quickly :) Having a sick dog is so incredibly scary.

I took him back in this morning for another x-ray per the vet's suggestion. There is less gas build up, but his stomach is distended and he thinks there is a foreign body in there, likely some kind of cloth :( All I can think is that he ate a sock or something, which is strange. For as many inappropriate things Riff likes to eat, clothes have never been one. The vet called Alameda East to see about getting him in for an ultrasound to determine what it is, but they can't get him in today. He also called a mobile ultrasound clinic to see if they could come see him today but he had to leave a message. For now Riff is staying at the vet so they can give him fluids and see if that will help move things along. They're going to do another x-ray around 3.

More vibes for Riff. Gracie has never eaten clothes either. But for some reason LOVES sponges.
