Well Christmas shopping is coming up and I am buying stuff off of ebay for my husband. He has his own ebay account that I have been using. The first thing I bought him he helped me pay for. Now we are both stuck. To pay for something you can use paypal but under the paypal button it sometimes says use a different method. We always use the different method and pay with credit card. Well last night I bought something and only the paypal button came up. So I payed through paypal. My husband never has used his paypal so we don't know how it really works. Do we get a statement from ebay to pay for the item, and then send the payment to ebay? How does the whole paypal thing work? Thanks for your help.

With paypal, it is sorta like wiring money into someone's bank account.

You send your payment through paypal, then the next business day it goes into the other person's bank account.

E-Bay will send you messages throughout the buying and shipping processes.

Hope I have helped!!

Okay. I understand better now. So the money we have in paypal is wired to the seller. Do we then get a bill from ebay to pay for the paypal credit?

There are a couple types of paypal payments.
1 is Instant. If you have existing funds in your paypal account it will subtract from there. If you use a credit card it's still an instant payment and the seller has received the money. Paypal will then bill your credit card.
2 is a bank transfer or an E check. If you have no funds in your account and you not signed up to use a credit card paypal will withdraw the money from your bank account and send it to the seller. This will show as an Echeck on paypal and takes up to 5 days to clear.

Just so you know if you buy an item and on the checkout page where it shows the different payment methods you can use, If only paypal shows up that means the seller only accepts paypal. They may accept other types and just didn't click on them when they set up the auctions.

edit to add: If the seller accepts other types of payments they should put it in their auction information. If they didn't you can always contact them to make sure. Sometimes If you but something underneath the price it will say "immediate payment required" In that case as soon as you buy the item you will be automatically redirected to pay for that item through paypal. It has to be paid for with paypal as soon as you click the button to buy that item.

Hope this was helpful. I buy/sell on ebay also.

Yup ....flies right out of your bank account . I don't like it anymore . Once I never got the merchandise and had no trail like the credit cards have.
