Well, Ike is 15 months old and its time to neuter him. His appointment is on Tuesday. They will be doing the old fashioned scalpel method and leaving the scrotum while removing the testes.

I was told that he can't play and roughhouse with Rita for a week. Ummm, this is going to suck! They have a play routine in the morning, afternoon and then evening where they wrestle and play tug for about 30 minutes. They also play off and on during the rest of the day as the spirit moves them. A week of no play will just about kill them and maybe me!

How did you guys handle this? Crate and rotate? Tether the healing dog to you? Seperate them into different sections of the house? I could use my pocket doors and keep one in the kitchen/basement family room and the other in the living/dining/bedroom areas.

When we got Mu spayed we had to separate her from Murphy with a child gate. If she was in the living room I just made sure that she didn't jump on or off anything (although the first time she did that was also the last time). It was a huge pain in the butt but I would suggest maybe walking Rita or doing fetch to help wear her out? Really the first two days he probably won't feel like doing anything anyway so you'll be almost a third of the way there! Lol.

When Orson was neutered, it wasn't easy to keep him "settled" and resting, especially for the first few days. He wanted to jump on my bed, and my bed is very high for any dog, but a dog with stitches........erm, not good.

I did have to use his crate. He was mopey and not liking it, but sometimes you gotta do what's best, whether they like it or not, LOL. It's only a few days, it'll pass soon enough :)

if separating them in different parts of the house is as easy as shutting your pocket doors, I would stick with that method.

Otherwise probably crate and rotate.

Remember that it's only for a few days... do what you have to do. Finn was crated more than he was out, and when he wasn't crated he was tethered to me. Did he hate it? Oh yes. But he healed flawlessly, so to me it was worth the few days of annoyance.
