So, I was on my home and decided to stop at barnes and nobles because I finished my novel on Monday. As usual, my first stop is at the pet section where I look at all the different dog breed books, the cookbooks, and the training books. Anyway, I decided today that I would read a few of the breeding books. I don't know that much on the subject, but being that I would like to show dogs in the future, I thought having some knowledge on the subject would be good. I also looked to see if they had books on showing dogs... alas they didn't.
Anyway, I found 3 books on breeding. All 3 claiming to be the "complete" breeding book. 2 were really big, and I just sorta flipped through them... One didn't mention nutrition anywhere, so I put that down. I don't know a lot, but I do know that puppies depend on their mom for their food... so what you're feeding the bitch should be pretty important. Lastly, I looked a the little one, and I was so mad after reading the nutrition section!
The book said that although adding meat(raw or cooked) to the bitches kibble was recommended in the past you shouldn't do it. It will mess up the nutritional value of the food. It also said supplements can be detrimental so you shouldn't give those either. It also said you shouldn't cook for your dog because it's too hard to get the values right so no matter how hard you try and how much planning you put into the meal you'll prob screw it up. It said that you should just leave creating the food up to the kibble companies, bc they test and analyze the food to make sure everything is in there. All I could think of was :yikes: Now, I don't claim to be a dog know it all in any front. BUT, all the nutrition anyone needs is provided by nature... not kibble companies! And a pregnant/nursing bitch NEEDS good quality foods! They’re require more than ordinary person… just like a pregnant woman. And as for the supplements being bad… then why do they give prenatal vitamins to people?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I feel bad for whatever poor puppies have to be born into a family that goes by this book! I wish that I had my notebook with me to write down the exact quote… maybe later or tomorrow. They have a coffee shop inside that I like to hang out at and read or make dream catchers in….
On a better note I bough “Holistic guide for a healthy dog†and although I haven’t read the whole thing yet, just flipped through it looks very promising!
