I am curious - someone said today - less than 10% of americans own passports :yikes:

Crazy.....

I can't imagine never leaving my country and experiencing other cultures!!!! Makes you a well rounded person (I think!)!

Oh yeah, and isn't something like 6% of those people in the millitary?!

I do, I do!! I even have visa stamps in mine.... Seems strange that someone would never want to leave their country!

I think I would go stir crazy...... You get sucked into a tunnel vision if you stay somewhere so long - well - I know that from having moved about the UK a bit...

I think leaving makes you realise that there is a world to be seen... I LOVE going abroad :D

Oh - we have put an offer in for a house in France by the way ;)

In the US you can travel to mexico without a passport. Or at least you use to be able too. Canada the same thing. Now with 9-11 and all that I havent tried passing either border.
The cost of going to another country is outragious. When I have the money to I would love to travel Europe. There is so much history there!

I would also like to go to Korea and Japan.

Of course the Bahamas sound really nice right now. Find a secluded beach and fry my naked self in the sun!

The thing is, you don't realize just how large the U.S. is - and how diverse. The only thing many of us have in common from one region to the next - even from state to state - is the language. And that's even up for question, lol!

Shoot, it takes an entire day to drive from one end of Tennessee to the other - and Tennessee isn't even a large state . . .

I think not enough people travel in their own countries as well. I know I want to see the Yukon and the Maritimes and travel in Quebec. I'd really like to spend some time in Montreal. You have to remember that countries like Canada and the US are a lot bigger than France and England with a lot of different cultures inside it. Every time I move in Canada I end up immersed in a new culture. Here's it's Lebanese, Ukranian and French Canadian. I've also lived in a city where all the signs are in Chinese and English (Richmond) and in very native communities as well. There's so much to see and I know people who have never travelled outside of their province let alone applied for a passport.

it's got nothing to do with wanting. it's got everything to do with being able to afford to do so.

i have one but it's like ten years expired.

I am one of those 92% that do not own one...I don't have the money to travel around my own country, never mind outside out of it. I'd love to though...who wants to put me up when I go to the UK/Europe? :D

I hear ya - but it's still all one nation - I mean, compared to travelling from England, to France, to Germany etc etc etc - which all have their own histories, languages, architecture, culture - it's just SO different..

I've been to America, and numerous european countries...

I just can't imagine being confined... Getting a holiday abroad once a year!!

We have always sought out places with as few english people as possible - it's nice to have a BREAK and reflect!!! Or forget!!

I think people in Europe are quite lucky because they can travel easily to so many different countries.

I've met people here who have never lived in a town outside of their hometown or even travelled to some of the popular tourist attractions. Getting away from it all doesn't have to be costly flights and trips overseas. I think everyone should move around and experience life but within their own means.

Yes and no... You have to remember England is an Island, so you need a ferry or plane to get to anywhere!!

I do remember England is an island lol. At least the last time I was there it was :p But it doesn't cost that much to get off it and on to the continent.
