OK, our sweet little puppy never had a farting problem until recently. The only change to her diet is that I've been giving her peanut butter filled kongs to play with. Could this be the cause? My little angel is going to fart me out of the house!!!

What are you feeding her. I have known too much peanut butter to cause diarrhea so it would probably cause gas too. Try filling the Kong with something else like wet dog food, Other members can probably give you ideas on what to fill it with instead.

We feed her Nutro dry food, and a small amount of Nutro wet food (about half a cup). I'd love other suggestions because she LOVES the peanut butter kongs and it keeps her busy for half an hour.

I know they do love peanut butter and a little bit is not bad but too much could cause the gas, sorry I'm not sure what else to fill it with. You could try putting less in the kong and see if that works.

I know adding a spoon full of plain yogurt into the food helps get rid of the gas.

Fill it with the kibble and some wet canned food or anything healthy that she likes. But a whole Kong of peanut butter could cause diarrhea.
I fill sometimes with the above and top the hole off with some cheese then I freeze it. They are busy for MORE than an hour.
You can put yogurt in the Kong too.

I've cut back on the peanut butter, and am now mixing it with a little mashed banana. It seems to have helped. thanks to all!

My puppy got HORRIBLE gas from the nutro wet food. I stopped giving it to her and gave her some better quality (eagle pack, canidae, innova) and it has stopped completely

I agree not to fill the whole thing with peanut butter. I can't remember where I heard it but someone once told me that to a dog its not the size of the treat that matters, its the fact that they get one :)

Try putting more healthy things in with the peanut button, get a chopper and chop up some veges, put in some yougart ect (some real canned pumkin might also help settle the stomach a bit)

Just to clarify, I never filled the kong with peanut butter. I just put about a tablespoon or so on the top and froze it. I haven't tried the yogurt- we'll see if she likes it! thanks for the suggestions!

Is Nutro you preference for food? Because I'm sure others here will easily convince you that it's not probably the best food you can give your dog for the price.

We've just switched to Canidae, but she doesn't seem to like it. I'm now afraid she's not eating enough. what's a mother to do??

Did you purchase the regular all life stage formula or the chicken and rice all life stage formula?

The chicken and rice formula has a little more fat and protein and may be more palatable.

How about mixing in some Canidae canned food?

Ok hold on. Sounds like too many changes at once. Canidae is a good choice of food but if she has a sensitive stomach make sure you switch it over gradually. Try adding water to her kibble to make it more palatable. Also, I've never fed Canidae before but she might need less than the Nutro. Compare how many calories are in a cup for each brand.

As for the peanut butter... I used to bake some apples or yams, mash it and mix it with some peanut butter and ground flax seed. They loved that in their kongs.

Yes, I'm afraid of too many changes. When we switched to Canidae (all life stages), I mixed some Nutro in but she still didn't like it, so I bought some wet Canidae food which she loved and gobbled up, BUT she had diarreah all day. So now I stopped with the wet food because I'm just not sure what's causing the runny stool.

It's too much too soon. Buy some PLAIN canned pumpkin and start adding a tablespoon to her food throughout this entire transition. That'll help calm things down in her belly. Very gradually mix the canidae into her food. This isn't going to happen overnight. Especially since she seems to have a sensitive stomach.

I guess I need "switch gradually" defined. Half and half? A few tablespoons of the new food with the old? Over the course of a few days or a few weeks? I really need a formula, because I'm really not sure what that means.
