Oh but wait...it's the responsible breeders that are reason for the pet over-population problem

OP- if you aren't a troll, have your chi spayed. There is no reason to breed her and risk her life. Even well thought out chi litters usually result in 1-2 pups and c-section deliveries which are about $900. If your family wants a pup then tell them to purchase one from a reputable, EXPERIENCED chi breeder.

Thank You

FoxyWench, thank you for all of the information you gave me, it is exactly what i needed. it was never a question of risking Lola by letting her have the puppies, if that was the case, i wouldnt be here. My question was simply: would i be able to abort and keep her uterus intact. Obviously the answer is leaning more towards no.

I dont understand why you are all calling me a troll? I am here with a legit question....no matter how stereotypical it might sound to you, these were questions to which i didnt know the answers to. Isnt that rule #2 anyway? youre calling me a troll and accusing me of breaking the rules when you, by assuming i am a troll (you know who you are), and targeting me any chance you get, are breaking the rules to the community you are "trying" to defend.

Okay,this is messed up.
Even if you are a troll,im going to answer cause someother legit person may need help and find it within me post.

There is no way that im aware of that will abort a litter and keep doggie intact.you either spay and maybe save her life,or you risk her life for a few cute puppies.
Notice I said few.Chihuahua's only have about 2 or 3 puppies each litter, and 1 may be stillborn, leaving you with just two puppies, still very weak and prone to infection and deasease.
Also, this litter will be bigger than the mother, due to the fathers size. This could kill her, leaving you with a dead bitch, and no puppies.
And dyo really think a weak, crossbred litter will be easy to sell?
You must b prepared to take back a unsocialized, untrained puppy when the new owner doesn't want them cause they got too much to handle.

I understand sometimes these things happen,i mean,i was in the same boat meself, but i chose to save my very young bitch from having a litter that could kill her.I spayed.
I just hope you do the same.

why shame on me if she prefers to be outside chasing birds and crickets and running around in circles, making tracks in my lawn? when she is inside alone she cries, when outside shes in heaven. why is it wrong to keep her happy?
If you really want to leave her outside make shure she can't go to the street and the yard is compleatly fenced..

As For the pups, if the dad is too big, why risk the life of your dog?

A cousing of mine had a pitbull and she got pregnant by a GSD mix at 6 months old, my dad went to visit my aunt and saw the huge tummy of the bitch and he told her the tummy was TOO large, and suggest to take the dog to the vet inmiditly, but they didn't do it.

a week and a half later before the dog went into labor, she died crushed from inside by the pups.

Geez people. Why are you attacking her? Accidents happen, and she never once said she was thinking about trying to have these puppies. She was asking for help on what her options are. I know we've had a few trolls lately, but don't assume anybody with a questions is a troll.

And FYI - I leave Charlie outside all day while I'm at work and I wouldn't have it any other way. Some dogs actually do like to be outside.

Charlie, In another post, she mentions wanting to breed her dog, obviously not to a much larger dog though....so that is where the don't be a byb comments are from.

I agree a dog can be happy outside, provided the yard is securely fenced, lots of shelter, water etc, and that it is safe from being stolen. Its the last reason that I don't leave my dogs out when I leave for the day, (even when I had a fenced area..but that is another story..)

I don't worry about Charlie being stolen - that's what locks are for. Plus, most people are too scared of him to even approach the fence! :lol-sign: But I guess with a Chi it would be different.

Spay her!! A pregnacy with a larger dog as father can be FATAL to toy dogs!

In any case, there are tons of chihuahuas in rescue and pounds . . . Tell your family members to get dogs from there instead.

ok I am going to say it this way. Your dog may be special to you and your family may like traits in her and want a pup like her. That being said it is not a good reason to breed her and bring more pups into the world. It is this type of thinking that is leading to mandatory spay/neuter laws. There is a mass over population of all breeds because of this type of thinking. Get your dog fixed and leave breeding to those who know what they are doing. You don't or you would not be in the situation you are in and asking advice. Send your friends and relatives to the shelters and give someone else's mistake a shot at living.

Chihuahuas commonly have c-sections... it is very important to breed a bitch with a dog who weighs at least 1lb less than she does.

A breeder friend of mine actually lost one of her bitches a couple of months back. She did everything right... but one of the puppy's was too large and ended up causing internal bleeding to the mother during delivery. The mom died slowly and painfully... and the breeder had to handfeed every puppy.

I've heard of more people having c-sections with their chis than not... and most dogs go into labor in the middle of the night.

Wow did I miss something. I stand by each and everyone here. SPAY the dog! Another and this may sound nasty, but get central air, that would have saved a lot of headache..The dog would have been comfortable all the way around. And saved from the harrassement from a unwanted breeding and or pregnancy!

Grammy, Foxy. :hail:

Please spay your bitch. And all your future bitches. There hundreds, if not thousands, more Chihuahuas being killed in shelters every day. Why are they killed? Bad temperament? Bad health? Not usually. Usually it's just because there aren't any homes for them. If your family and friends want a Chi (or any dog, for that matter) have them go to a shelter and adopt one of the many dogs there that are being killed for lack of homes, while people like you are out making MORE puppies that will be killed for the same reason.
