Rex's first birthday. To celebrate I chased him around the pasture with a lunge whip for 20 minutes... just kidding.. he's recently been seperated from the rest of the gang as he's starting to act studdy and he will stand outside the door when he does get outside time waiting for them, which as a result makes him a bit of a **** ant to handle, so I have to force a little exercise.

Anyways, I thought I would share a couple of pictures of him over the last year. He certainly was his mum's Magnum Opus, IMHO! LOVE this boy everytime I look at pictures of him, I fall more and more in love. Sure hope he shapes up to stay a stud.

As a note, his mum passed away on August 28th (mentioned in my sig) due to colic.

Just a few minutes old..

I never saw her so happy as this last summer.. nor did I ever enjoy her as much as I did this past summer either.. Ironic, huh?

Relaxing..

Learning a couple of lessons..

(More coming right up from yesterday!)

LOL, and some other things I didn't really want. We're working on a few behavioural issues now... it's my own fault that I haven't cracked down on him and demanded more respect before this point, so I am taking my lumps, needless to say. Especially as he is a stallion prospect - if he's to be intact.... but he was definitely channeling his momma last week - rearing on the lead, cutting the circle I was lunging him to kick out at me... she did all of those things too, lol. Just a little different with a stud colt!

Yeah, and you have to keep after him, too. If you just leave him be for any period of time, he'll completely forget everything. *insert eye roll here* I know he's way smarter than that, but his momma acted stupid for the first three years of her life, sooo...

For example - he's had a couple of visits with the farrier - all before he was weaned in August (yep, he's due again, buttt...)... after Angel died, I didn't do a lot with either of them, but I figured (as it has been with all our babies) - you pick up their feet once when they're little, they pretty much remember it forever....

Went out to pick up his feet about a month and a half ago and he snatched it right up and dropped his shoulder on me like you often see them do in the pasture when they're playing with another colt. That's taken a good two weeks for me to get out of him, and he's still a little iffy. If nothing else, he'll untrain my lazy habits!
