I gave my 7 month old pug a greenie today, and then, 10 minutes later, I come in and it's gone! I can't find it anywhere, so I'm scared he swallowed it. after hearing all your stories, I'm so scared about it. there is so way for me to get to the vet's before 4:30 pm, and right now, it's around 2:30 pm. I think it happened like 1/2 an hour ago, so do you think it's okay that I could only get him to the vet in 2 hours? is there anything I could do at home to help him? please respond asap!

When i buy my guy greenies, he does the same thing, take shim 5 min to chew and eat it completely.

He's always been ok, but depending on the size of your pup and the size of the greenie i would get him checked out.

I think he'll be ok, but as i said need more info.

my puppy is around 25 pounds, and the greenie was one of those petite ones. I'm very worried, and your words were quite reassuring to me. as soon as I can, I'll take him to the emergency vet clinic.

thank you

I think he would be okay. :) He isn't very small and the greenie is, so the size balances out. He should be fine. :)

thank you for your reassuring words. I would be calm by now, but I've read so many horror stories on other websites concerning greenies, that I'm quite worried.

I sure do hope he's okay, but may this be a lesson. NEVER leave a dog alone with a greenie. Too many dangers. And definitely not worth the risk. Raw bones are much healthier and safer for your dog.

After having read what I have about these things in recent weeks I would NEVER give one to my dog.

EVER.

Not worth the risk to me.

as soon as this whole ordeal is over, and I'm reassured that my baby is perfectly fine, I'm throwing out all the greenies in my house and never buying more.

$$$$

It is all about the money. Dogs love them(because of a certain ingredient) so owners buy them. Health hazards mean nothing compared to money according to the company that produces and sells these things.

I really want to start a campaign against them. I'm surprised they are still on the market after all those complaints and deaths. it's just awful. I want to make all dog owners aware of the hazards of these greenies so they'll stop buying them. ever since today, I've realized how dangerous it is, because dogs swallow them

well, I'm not sure.

Coco seems fine. he looks healthy, he's doing his usual stuff and everything. do you think it necessary to go to the vet?

Make sure he poops! If he doesn't go eventually..he could be blocked up. Watch him very very closely..ANY sign of illness, STRAIGHT to the vet.

I am confused. Why would they sell them if they are hazardous to many dogs?
Because its a demanding market.. LOTS and LOTS of dog biscuits are just crap with flavour on them that also include tons of fatty ingredients as well. Yet owners buy them for their dogs.

Rawhide is yet again another horrible thing to give to your dog. Its not very digestable, same with the Greenies. Riot has never had a rawhide or a greenie and never will.

I'd keep a watchful eye on your little boy. Make SURE that he has a good bowl movement. If he doesn't today, then I'd get him to the hospital to check and see if there is an intestinal blockage. Sometimes the symtoms dont arise until later.

Even a call to the vets would be a better idea if you can't get your pup in right now. Then they can at least give you some piece of mind. :)

I already tried calling the vet, but none of the vets are working today, except in emergency cases. I tried asking the secretary if I may speak to the doctor, but it wasn't possible.

I'll feed him today as usual, and take him out as usual. hopefully he'll be able to poop. I'll post if there is any progress

Interesting coincidence. I just read a couple days ago a report about dogs dying from ruptured or telescoped intestines from eating these things. It seems they are totally indigestable?

I just read a note on one of my lists about a surgery performed on a small dog to remove a piece of greenie.

It was lodged at the bottom of his esophagus just before it goes into the stomach. It was a MAJOR surgery, it had to be done at a veterinary specialty clinic because of the severity and danger of the surgery.

Forewarned is forarmed.

I would not feed any of my dogs a greenie, and these are dogs that eat (raw) bones almost every day.

Sorry to get OT, but Redyre, how much do raw bones usually cost? Can you find them in grocery stores? (We don't have local butchers around here). My mom doesn't want the soup bones either(too hard).

Tessa, I have a phenomenal supplier nearby. It is a dairy, and they do their own slaughtering and processing. I get all my beef there. It comes in 5 lb frozen tubes. .55US for beef, .60US for organ meat (heart liver, kidney, tripe), and knuckle bones for .30US.

They also eat chicken and pork bones, and rabbit when I can find (and afford) it.

well, I have some good news. my baby ate as usual and after that, he pooped. twice. I wasn't at home then, I was at a party for some time, but that's what my dad told me. so I guess that the 2 piles of poop have something to do with the greenie. so can I consider everything fine now? and of course, I'm throwing out all of the greenies in the house.
