About 5:45 PM.. Chip and Hunter start barking and there's a beautiful BIG Brindle Great Dane in my yard. I see a collar, so go out to check tags and of course none except a Petsmart grooming tag. So Grammy debates whether or not to take the chance and bring her in. That is about 300#s of dog flesh versus 102#s of Grammy flesh. Since the boyz are neutered and she's young, I get her into the garage and water her and give her a few kibbles. Then I let the boyz meet her and Hunter says " What fun"....so all come into the house. All's fine...except the wading pool was set up on the patio and both she and Hunter have a great play romp in and out of pool and through the house. Well. I don't compare to New Orleans , but the house is drenched.!! I've called around and drove around and checked Petfinders.com and posted. While I was driving around, she jumped the fence but was at the front door when I got back. Tomorrow will call all animals controls, have her checked for a chip at my vet, and check with petsmart in case they know her. I haven't checked to see any spade scars yet...the house is a Zoo !!!! Lord, I hope she doesn't sleep with her family as the 3 will get my twin bed tonight and I'll sleep on the floor !!! Sigh....maybe a glass of whine will help.

Now that I've been around her more I'm wondering about her breeding. What do GD ears look like when not clipped ?? When I errect them she is GD... but they flop over. She's a brindle but darker than most I've seen. Is there a breed I'm not familiar with that looks GD but isn't ??? She's not mixed as far as I can see. She's Gd dane body, head , face, tail etc.

GDs have floppy hound ears when left uncropped. Good luck in finding her owner! I'm sure they're probably so worried about the poor thing.

Her owners must be worried sick, I know I would be, if she jumped your fence maybe that's how she became lost in the first place. Good luck finding the owners. Normally do you sleep in a twin size bed with Chip?

Yes, twin bed. Chip usually starts out with me, but after a little rubbing and lovin' gets hot and goes to the floor to guard my bed. In the AM, he's usually on his pad beside my bed. Hunter ( when here, which he is now ) stays on my bed all night long .... glad when Chip goes off and with a sigh spreads out. Will be interesting what " Tiny" (LOL!!!!) does. Right now all three have crashed by me and the 'puter.... I'll put a quilt out for her and hope for the best. She's very good and quiet when not playing... gave me her paw tonight, and when I said " other paw" gave me the other. When I take her in to check on a micro chip tomorrow, I'm anxious to get her weight....she's huge ! Hope tomorrow's headlines don't say " Elderly lady found dead in bed smothered by a golden, a lab and a great dane" !!!

I have to admit I'm a bit laughing at the picture :D

I hope you find the owners! My guess is also that the dog jumped the fence.

This is a dark spotted great dane, wouldn't exactly call her a brindle. Good luck in finding her owners, I'm sure they miss her. Sounds like y'all had a good time!

Ohhh Granny! The only phrase I can come up with is the famous Bogie "Of all the backyards this dane could have stumbled into ..." LOL Somewhere along those lines :) I will say, luckily for her/him? she stumbled into yours! Good Luck and do you have an update?

Take care

That's sweet of you to take her in. I hope you find her parents soon!

Btw, GDs can be dark brindle. Like this.

And I like the way they look with the natural ears. So cute! Like oversized puppies!

My GD was a very dark brindle. He was a great dog. Very calm when not playing. I have been laughing the whole way thru this. And GD's do love to play in swimming pools, And they can sling the drool. But wonderful companions and friends. I bet his owners are missing the poor baby. if you can't find the owner's, you must get a bigger bed. They love to stretch out and poke you with their feet. And can sometimes push with the feet. They are bed hogs. HeHeHe
