Hitch will be 10 soon (2 months is soon to me) and he is just as lively as the first day he came into my life. I hate to retire him this year but I don't want to burn him out. He is getting neutered in 2 weeks and then he will be retired from breeding as well (I hope i hope I hope POe turns out to be breeding worthy). He hasent be doing to many runs lately as i want to transition him out of it.
Anyways this afternoon I was laying on the couch after both runs and just relaxing before I had to start getting things together for their lunch. Pakak has transitioned to the barn which he did well and he still spends alot of time in the house but he is just so big and he enjoys his outdoor time more. And Poe has been being kept outside in the barn kennels with his mum since he was 10 weeks. Anyways to the point I moved Hitch inside so he can live out his years sleeping on beds instead of sawdust and straw.
To my point lol I was laying there starting to fall asleep when I felt weight on the couch and then paws and a head on my chest. I opened my eyes to see Hitch he was laying/standing there just staring off into space with heavy eyes. I started to pet his head and he started to make his happy moan. He then pulled his paws down and just sat there next to the couch looking at me with just love in his eyes and wagging his tail.
I just love that dog its like I can read his mind and he can read mine. He often reminds me of Tosser ( Tosser is his uncle) in so many ways i often wonder if Tosser just took over his body. He is my Partner in everything sleddog and we have had many memories not all pleasent from the trail i will never forget. Though Hitch is now retired and no longer a "working dog" I will never let him feel useless. And I hope to have atleast 6 more years with this wonderful dog .
