It's not really what you said you're looking for, but I think you could maybe like it?
The Inheritance epic by Christopher Paolini is AMAZING. The first book in the series is Eragon. The movie was terrible, unfortunately, so if you've seen it, don't let it turn you off from the book! It's an AMAZING story and I love how well it is written.
I am also reading a series from the writer of the Animorphs books. It's called Everworld, and it is about the Old Gods of the word (Aztec, Norse, etc) creating their own world, and moving themselves and their worshipers to it. I've read the first book so far, where the boy's girlfriend gets sucked out of the reality they live in, our world, and into Everworld by Loki and his son, Fenrir. It's great so far, very interesting to read. Not at all what I expected when I grabbed the books from the thrift store!
Also, check out Christopher Moore's vampire books. Bloodsucking Fiends and You Suck, they are great. The third books seems to be the least favourite, but it's there if you want to continue the story, but the first two are great and perfect without it. His other books are AMAZING. Check out A Dirty Job, which is a story that plays alongside Bloodsucking Fiends (one scene crosses over into both books and is told in each from the point of view of the main characters in the two stories) and also Fluke, which is about marine biology and whales (and the twist in the story is one you will NEVER suspect, it took me completely and utterly by surprise and is simply one of the best plot twists I have ever come across).
