Well Boris is 6 months now, so he is going to the vet tomorrow to be neutered and microchipped. I know he's not supposed to eat nor drink anything after midnight tonight, so I guess I am going to have to move everything out of his way, including his chewing bones, and be really careful that he doesn't eat anything when he goes out for potty tomorrow morning...

What else should I know? They will keep him overnight, and we pick him up on Friday morning.

That's about all I can remember too. Only my vet said not to eat or drink after 9 or 10, but maybe they do the surgery earlier in the morning. And then I was able to pick my pup up after 3 or 4 in the afternoon of the same day. But they all do things a little differently. This way, he'll be in good hands. Good luck. Don't worry....such a routine thing. He'll be good as new in a short time. The vet will tell you what he can do and not do afterward. Hugs to your pup!

I always love to hear it when owners do a responsible thing such as neutering :) Wishing your pooch a speedy recovery.

Sending out Doggie & Kitty hugs & kisses to Boris! You will be a worried parent as I was. When we picked up Max the next day we brought our video camera because we thought he'd be so excited to see us. Well, camera in hand and out comes Max from the vet's office and he's like "oh it's you" and we take him outside, he pees, and wants to go back in!!!!! Talk about excited to see us. Max was still Max.

That's too, too funny Barb. How 'Max' can you get, lol!

Try not to be too stressed, Fran. Don't make us have to change your name to Fran-tic ;) Boris will come through with flying colors and you'll have your hands full keeping him quiet for a few days.

LMAO Barb ... Max is like my Sadie, can care less. We call her Eyore all the time, "Where's My Tail...".

Everything will be fine Fran ! Give Boris big hugs and kisses from me, Sadie and Nora!

He's fine, but throwing up from the anesthesia :( I'm picking him up tomorrow at 10am, really hoping that he will be ok because I really can't carry him! (he's 60 lbs, and I'm recovering from surgery last week).

The house was so quiet today...

They had to put him on IV because he was getting deshydrated, and we can't pick him up until this afternoon now. I'm worried, I hope he will be fine.

If you can, go by to check on him. You - and he - will feel better and you can get an eyeball-to-eyeball read about the situation. It's unlikely that it's anything more than just being dehydrated. Try not to worry too much. Let us know when you pick him up! ;)

He's back. They had to put one of those things around his head because he was chewing the stitches, the poor thing seems disorientated :( He needs to keep it until next week too... He lost some weight, and as he can't keep anything down, we had to give him just a little bit of water and no food until tomorrow. Now he's standing at the water bowl waiting for more :(

I was proud of him though, we took him outside from the vet and he did a huuuuge pee right away. Poor thing was holding because he didn't want to go inside :D

Now he's just standing there not moving. Poor baby :(

Those Elizabethan collars do freak them out. You should have seen Shiva in one when she managed to slice her hide open. Heck, that collar was so huge it would have freaked me out!

Put some ice in his water. The cold water will set better on his tummy and will quench his thirst better. You can give him Pedialyte too, to help with the dehydration. Poor little guy. What a rough day.

When we got our Shelby spayed she was SO mad at us. When we came to pick her up she gave us this look like "how could you?" It was funny but it was sort of sad too.

He keeps getting his collar stuck everywhere, it's pretty funny. Poor guy. It took him 4 attempts to get in his crate last night, lol. The positive thing is that with that thing on, he hasn't jumped on us once since he came back. It's amazing. I'm really hoping that it's going to get him rid of that bad habit. Other than that, it's the same dog, still going after the cats and our socks and shoes :D . He's always had that habit of chewing his bones holding them with his paws in front of him (really cute), last night he tried but of course he can't because of the collar. It's pretty amusing but I feel bad for him :(

This morning he let us sleep until 9 without whining, so we were a bit worried, but he was fine. He kept everything we gave him last night down - a bit of water every hour, a couple pieces of chicken, a couple treats, two ice cubes. We gave him a cup of food this morning and he seems fine too.

I'm less worried now :)

Fran -- I'm so glad Boris is doing better! Poor thing, having to wear that darn lampshade!

One of my nicknames for my Eli was Fuzzy. After he got the Big Snip, it turned into Fuzzy Nutless! :p

Glad to hear he's doing better, Fran. Anesthesia can be a lot rougher on the system than you'd think it would be. I've only been under once, and I don't ever want to go there again! Felt like I'd been beaten for a few days and I found myself standing at the kitchen sink washing my best paring knife thoroughly so I could cut my wrists without taking a chance on getting an infection  Luckily, something in my head saw how funny it was to worry about getting an infection when slitting your wrists and that snapped me out of it enough to realize it was just the drugs still in my system. I can't imagine what goes through our animals' heads with all of that stuff running through their systems!

When we had my parents' dog neutered he was so pathetic...he was still groggy when we brought him home, and he didn't have control of his bladder, but he was cogniscent enough to be embarrassed that he was 'leaking' and tried to lick up his 'accidents' while whimpering...poor guy!

I guess he didn't feel so bad because they kept him over 24 hours after the operation.

I was a bit worried this morning because he was quiet again until past 9 (I could definitely get used to that though :D ), then I opened the crate and he was lying on his side looking at me, and didn't rush out like he usually does. I think he really hates the collar :(

Yesterday though, he stole my breakfast white bread loaf and ate the whole thing... The only thing left was the paper. So I guess he's doing fine, and I'm glad I didn't buy the big size :D
