frontline didnt work, and advantix didnt work :(
Ruckus has fleas! not nearly as bad as he did before applying his last dose of frontline, but its been 3 weeks and he still has fleas!
i am clueless on what my other options are. I know thats all my regular vet carries for fleas.

what about bio spot? Its from walmart and its the cheap stuff. i dont agree with using it, but i know a few collie breeders that use it and swear it works and they have never had problems. There is a big website out there all about bio spot killing pets, so that scares me away. but there also are websites about frontline, advantix, etc causing death.
the cat advantage works great on rabbit fleas, but of course thats completely different.

are there any natural remedies that actually work?

thanks for any advice! i need to find something before the fleas get worse and worse.

You probably have fleas in the environment that the dog is in, like carpeting etc. I have heard that sometimes it takes a couple of months and also treating the areas that the dog is around to get rid of them. I have had much better results with Advantix than Frontline and Advantix kills the fleas when they jump on the dog rather than after the flea bites the dog as does Frontline.

Did you try advantage or advantix?
I know you said advantix, but sometimes people confuse the two.

I would not use biospot!

I use frontline and havent seen a flea in many years.

Just be certain that it contains NO Ivermectin in the flea medication as Shetland Sheepdogs are one of the breeds that CAN have a very adverse reaction to it. Unless you had a MDR1 test run on Ruckus and you are absolutely certain that he does not have that mutant gene I wouldn't chance it.

Have you:

Vacuumed your carpets and thrown away the bag immediately?
Washed all of Ruckus's toys in hot water?
Washed any clothing that Ruckus has touched in hot water?
Washed any furniture that Ruckus has touched in hot water?
Washed your bedsheets, blankets, etc. in hot water?
Combed Ruckus before applying Frontline to remove existing fleas?

Additionally:
Are you certain that they are fleas?
Does Ruckus get wet/dirty within 2 days of your Frontline applications?
Is Ruckus on a secondary flea control, such as Sentinel?

You need to treat your environment if you are still seeing fleas. This means spray the yard and vacuum everything. Wash all dog bedding etc.

You may want to try a flea bath and then apply Advantage (regular advantage, not advantix) a day or two after the bath. Advantage will eventually kill fleas in the environment by treated dog dander falling off into carpets and bedding etc. but this process takes a few months and you must be consistent with applying Advantage.

You may also want to consider treating your dog for tapeworms as well. Fleas and tapeworms go hand in hand...

I use K9 Anvantix with no fleas for years ..... even though the house next door was infested . I don't know about rabbits , but I know cats have to treated if you want to be flea free . And collars don't work !

someone just sent me a "remedy" to treat your yard,,and I agree, you've got to treat your ENTIRE environment, pets, etc, even if you don't see any, they are there :))

Soooo take a day, and bomb your house, flea bath, cat's, dogs, rabbit, whatever,,,the remedy (and I don't know if it works, we haven't had fleas here in 10 years :)) is Ivory Dish Detergent (they say it HAS to be Ivory) and put it in one of those yard hose attachments? hook it up to your hose, and hose down your yard, around the foundation of your house,,the ivory won't hurt your animals nor kill your grass etc...

Don't know if it works or not but it's a try...

Have been through all of that. We eventually had our house bombed twice, and have subsequently put Phoebe on Program tablets, which she takes once a month. Touch wood, we haven't seen a flea for a couple of months.l
