uggh. Saw a sign in a store window advertising Puggle puppies.

"First Generation."

Does that mean they bred their beagle to their pug ?!? :(

I think i'll find some local shelters with abandoned puggles and put up fliers for them.

Yes, the f1 generation is the cross. Usually in designer dogs that's as far as they go. When developing a breed, they will breed further down the line to get a standardized look. You rarely see F2+ generation designer dogs.

So yes, a F1 Puggle is the result of a beagle and a pug having babies.

With breeding fish, or some reptiles, first generation hybrids or first generation from the wild is a good thing and very desirable. The animals are healthier, and may show certain color traits, etc. But why a first generation designer mutt is a good thing, I have absolutely no idea. Dogs, not being fish or reptiles, can produce very unpredicatble results from a purebred mix, as the owners of mixes and mutts everywhere know. Looks like someone coming up with some idiotic statement that sounds good to the ignorant . . . sigh
