I was trying to think of my ideal pack, and realized that I have very conflicting wants in one dog - I don't want two to suit my needs, I want one that does it all.

Wants:
Bigger than 60lbs
Non-shedding or longhair - absolutely no lab or GSD coats, although I waver on whether I'd tolerate a Vizsla/Dobe-type coat.
Medium to High energy as an adult
Dog park dog
Jogging companion
Swimmer

Off-leash dog would be lovely without being a necessity.
A snuggly dog would be nice, but I don't have a huge preference on a velcro or aloof temperament anymore. I like velcro with the ability to give me some personal space.
I would kill a barky dog. Otherwise, Aussie or Rough Collie = YES.
A dog that can be taught to retrieve would be great.
Grooming is not a concern, I enjoy it. If I can't do it myself I'll pay for it.

Let's brainstorm again, all I'm coming up with is a Poodle or Poodle mix.

Other than the swimmer part (not completely sure if they are swimmers or not) what about a Borzoi?

Then I can live vicariously through you until I someday get my own.

They're a little smaller than your ideal size but a Barbet would fit most of your requirements. Larger males can get up to 60lbs.

I just came in here to say Barbt, so I can have barbet pictures.
They are smaller though, 40-60lbs.
My co-worker/friend who is sometimes on here is getting a Barbet in the next 2 years. We are planning a trip to Canadaland sometime in 2014 to meet some breeders (she is less than impressed with the breeding programs in the US).

ES would fit most checkmarks but I personally wouldn't call them dog park dogs - at least, I wouldn't get a puppy expecting it to be a dog park dog. True aggression isn't common in the breed but it is quite common for them to be fun police and not enjoy the antics of the rude, hyper, overstimulated dogs typically at a dog park. Depending on the dog, they may tattle on them (to you) or may also feel the need to correct the dog "acting out" themselves. This can easily turn into them feeling like they have to defend themselves (and/or you), which can lead to dog reactivity like it did with Quinn.

Still on the maybe list.. Do want. Except that they seem lower energy as adults.

Way too small. Otherwise yes. Love.

Sounds to me like a male standard poodle meets all your wants:)
Agreed. Another plus about them is that they aren't super friendly with EVERYONE. Reserved friendly.

If you like Aussies & collies, have you looked at some of the larger ESs? I don't find Hudson to be much of a barker
Um. I thought they were BC-sized?

Everything else suggested I'm googling because I don't know WTF I'm talking about.

Large Munsterlander?

(I seriously, will one day own a Large Munsterlander. I think once that will be my "retriever" breed of choice just to keep all my serious herderbrained dogs lighter hearted.)

Briards and Picards aren't what I would call "dog park dogs"...

I do think a standard poodle sounds pretty ideal.

I know a Curly breeder and they're nice dogs - retriever-y but more reasonable than most Labs. They do shed though.
