Ear/Tail preference?

Sizzle has some great pictures of all-natural Dobes from a European kennel but I'm blanking on the name and don't have the bookmark on this computer.

Natural dobes look too "houndy" to me, which is perhaps why I like them so much better cropped/docked.

I do not like undocked Pemmies.

Generally I don't like any dogs cropped unless it's really, really well done (like Sizzle's dobermans), and I don't like APBT's cropped at all.

I like most all dogs that are traditionally docked to be docked.

imo, IF they are going to ban docking/cropping...they should work on some type of earset and tailset and length and thickness that compliments the dog and retains the upright naturally alert appearance a guardian breed should have.

They should to me...not appear houndy...like they should be nose down in a field someplace...but ever watchful...keenly intelligent...alert and like they miss NOTHING about what's going on.


the type of tail..it's set should match the dog...and should lend itself to not being a hazard or constant source of pain or injury. Nor should it detract from the breeds ORIGINAL PURPOSE which, in the case of the guardian breeds...is NOT to be cute, or approachable in appearance!

I prefer natural ears, especially on pit bulls. I absolutely hate the crop where it looks like there's basically no ear left. Makes me shudder just looking at it. I also love natural tails. That schnauzer someone posted a picture of is stunning.

It's interesting how many people think natural dobe ears look "houndy." I don't see it myself. They look a lot closer to dalmatian ears.

I've never seen their ears to be all that standard as to look like another breed, just a general "otherness"...they resemble sighthounds to me.

I prefer the natural look in every breed. All Natural boxers take my breathe away, docked/cropped ones don't make me look twice.
I LOVE rotties with full tails, gorgeous.

I havn't actually ever seen a cropped dog in Australia, and because of the docking legislation I am seeing less and less docked dogs.

Dobes still look kinda odd to me with tails but I'm starting to like it, dobes I love the look of a good crop (Ronin and Ilsa's ears are stunning and suit them perfectly) but regardless, I wouldn't have it donw myself.

Au Naturale is my preference.. all breeds, tails and ears. I have a cocker in class right now with a natural tail and Dobi's are coming in a lot with natural everything....OMG, so cute!

I prefer all dogs natural. I am so happy that the docking ban has been passed in SA. I get to see more natural dogs now!

Though I prefer the cropped look in dobes, they don't look like hounds to me at all if they're not docked and cropped.

Still has that same keen dobe expression imo.

I like rotties either way, I like boxers uncropped, never saw an undocked boxer until the picture here. Doesn't look bad. I like pits uncropped. Dobes I much prefer cropped and docked. Danes either way.

Undocked pemmies just wouldn't be the cute little bunny butts they are

For the most part, I like the breeds that are usually cropped/docked as cropped/docked dogs. Most APBTs and Amstaffs I do not like cropped, simply because I feel they have the wrong crops for their faces - same with Boxers. It's rare to see a Boxer or a bully breed with a truly nice crop.

The dog doesn't look that different to me than a b/t smooth saluki, with a shorter nose of course...Dobes have sighthound in the past....from what i understand...their present elegance as opposed to pics I have seen of other types...lends itself more towards that with the ears.

Dobes DO look different.

But if you love the breed, you love the breed, and they are still dobes, with dobe personalities and traits.

I've actually NEVER met a cropped dobe in my life. It was only seeing them in movies as a child that I even realised they did that to them.

And OMG I can't express how much I LOOOVVVEEE boxers with tails. Seen a fair fair few of these little angels, and I love them. Cropped boxers look totally ridiculous to me anyway.... But I love them all natural... LOVE.
