Hi all, my dog got his first professional grooming two days ago and he's been acting weird since. He is quite irritated in his hindquarters...He keeps sitting and lifting his hind legs and licking at either side. The groomer clipped his belly and around his testicles...so I'm not sure if he itches or if it's something else. His skin doesn't look red or abnormal other than something that is a bit of a side note...his testicles are very dark compared to the rest of his skin. I've never seen them before because of his very thick hair. Is this normal? I won't be able to talk to my vet until tomorrow and I'm worried about him. I really hate seeing him like this. He is eating, playing, and sleeping like normal. Is it common that dogs have this reaction to their first grooming? Should I be worried? Should I find an emergency vet? Thanks for any advice you have to offer!

The groomer may have had to try pretty hard to express the anal glands, and his butt is sore because of this... that's just one possibility. The shampoo could have not been diluted enough or not rinsed out properly... or, maybe he's just miffed by the increased cool air flow to his nether regions!

What kind of dog is he? long haired?

Charlie acts like that after just about every groom if he is long enough.
Especially this time of year when its colder.
Its strange to all all this air going up your butt when you are not used
to it :lol-sign:

As for the balls, sorry not my area of expertise... Maybe you could post
a photo for people to take look at?

My Yorkie/Shih Tzu did the same thing after I did her first sanitary. I think it's just a thing that they do when it's their first time feeling that way.
