No SO to speak of, but I do have a somewhat odd situation with two of my siblings. The three of us co-own our house. My sister loves dogs, but is not as involved with them. My brother doesn't dislike dogs. He's more of a cat person though.
My sister doesn't really know much about dog breeds or how to go about acquiring a dog responsibly. If finding a third dog was up to her, we would probably have something from a less than stellar breeder. Luckily, she doesn't mind leaving the actual finding of a dog up to me.
She does however like to have some say in certain characteristics. She's totally on board with bringing a Mastiff into the fold, but really wants a fawn or apricot male. I'm with her on the male part, but I'm not set on any specific color and will not be turning a puppy down if it's brindle.
My brother would be just fine if there were no dogs in the house. He would also probably be fine if we had 12 dogs in the house as long as I prevented any of them from eating/mauling the cats. He does really like playing with Pig and I have found him cuddling with her on the couch a few times, but overall he has nothing to do with the dogs. He thinks Mastiffs are ugly, but hasn't objected to living with one.
If it wasn't for me I don't think either of them would enjoy living with a higher energy dog. My sister loves rotties, boxers and bully breeds, but realistically doesn't have the lifestyle to live with any of them on her own. She does tag along to Pig's agility classes, but she just observes and thinks it is more or less the most boring thing ever. My brother's dream dog is a Sibe, but he's based that purely on appearance. But, since he doesn't really do anything with the dogs except for some passing chase/wrestling/fetch games, he doesn't get too much of a say in the breeds/types we live with.
I will say that there was a chance that I was going to bring home a PIO a few months ago and both of them hated the idea. They agreed that since it would be my dog, it's ultimately my decision, but they both thought Rufus was the ugliest thing they've ever seen. So yea...hairlessness is something neither of them are fond of. (Un)Fortunately, Rufus was adopted before I got back from California, so I never got to take him home.
