Walker has always been weird around certain dogs but its always after meeting them and having a reason too. Lately or rather since Ive been pregnant he will react to certain dogs that hes never met before in his life. And then some he just walks by wanting to play. For example today we were walking back from Publix (grocery store) and we walked by this guy walking an altered male ACD and he wouldnt stop barking and his hackles were up. Ive never seen this dog before in my life and neither has Walker. He wouldnt even stop after they passed he watched him till we turned the corner. The we passed a intact male Boxer that he didnt like at all before because he tried to attack Walker once and he just wanted to play. It makes no scense to me. Is this just something cause im pregnant? or is he jsut weird?

Ronan is like that. He is very "touch and go" with every dog he meets. There is no consistancy to it at all. No pattern that I can find (although of course there has to eb some reason). He very plainly either likes a dog or he doesnt. He could also go from acting puppy-like and wanting to play with a dog at a distance then when up close to the dog suddenly switching to fight mode.

The protectiveness is pretty typical when an owner gets pregnant.

How old is Walker now? I have seen some dogs lose their "edginess" as they mature. Its like the fight just isnt worth it to them anymore. Other dogs do the exact opposite and just get edgier as they age.

Was he socialised much as a puppy?

All dogs react differently to every dog because every dog gives off different energy at any given time, but aggressive behaviour is usually due to lack of socialisation.

Yea. this is nothing new its in half his breed discription but hes never been that intense to a completly strange dog. Plus he lives with 3 dogs and we fostered Greyhounds when he was a puppy. And it wasnt blatant aggression it was jsut barking becuase if he wanted to get to that dog he could have.

Yes.

Gonzo reacts differently, mostly, based on breed. He is awesome with any small dog. He is basically always fine with herding breeds, and terriers, and lower energy breeds. But there is something that he DESPISES about most sporting breeds, Labs in particular! He doesn't go after them, he's mostly scared of them, and if they're running around he will attempt to herd them. D:

I don't allow him to play off-leash with dogs that I don't know he's 100% fine with, and my dogs generally never meet other dogs on-leash, unless I know the dogs pretty well. It's just better for all parties involved. He however knows that when he's on-leash around other dogs, he cannot pull, growl, snarl, or lunge, ever. That's mostly because I don't allow him to hone in on other dogs... his "heel" and "watch me" are really solid for that purpose.

He doesnt pull, lunge, or growl at any dog (except one that has tried to attack me before) he just barks and its annoying because he stares them down and I worry the other dog is really going to attack. Hes never offleash with other dogs I dont know either but thats just because I dont trust other dogs. I tried it with him once and this freaking idiot Lab tried to mount him and the owner wouldnt do crap about it until Walker snapped at him. Hes got a good watch me and he heels through the whole thing but he hones in on them because he is after all a guardian breed.

Weell, it's good that you have him under control in these situations. That's most important. Maybe try getting him to sit and watch you before it escalates to barking? I just don't like to ever let Gonzo become focused on something, to the point of obsession... but he is a Border Collie, and he has ridunculously strong eye.

I dont do that because that would put importance on it and if im nervous our uncomfortable he gets worse because he picks that up from me and then he will get aggressive because he feels im in trouble. And if a dog isnt going to be an issue I dont want to turn it into to one. Becuase usually once he takes a dislike to another dog it is permanent except with Patches.

Gipst freaks out when she see JRTs. She hides behind my or who ever is walking her's leg! She's afraid of them I guess because when ever she's gotten bitten the biting has been done by a JRT. Other than that she'll ushally ignore dogs that are younger than her because they run around to much... My little Girl's gonna be 8 soon!...

Sorry to be off topic, but OMG! Gipsy looks GREAT for 8!! I would've thought she was only around 1-3 years!

Yup! Eve is very tuned in to the intentions of another dog. She's extremely submissive to dogs that she thinks are leaders, and a bit of a queen bitch to those who seem weak.

For the most part, she's friendly and submissive but she (as well as Dakota) HATES smush-faced breeds. She doesn't mind my Boxer, but she's flat-out refused to play with English Bulldogs and a Pekingese. I think it's because of the wheezing they do when they breathe, it just doesn't sound right to her.

Dash is friendly to gentle and submissive dogs, but she picks fights with dominant or pushy ones. She's inconsistent now since she's 5 months old, but I anticipate her being a little snot to everyone when she's mature.

Sarama is not DA, though she's very "alpha" and tries to be the boss whenever she meets another dog. But she definately reacts to different dogs in different ways . . . some of it is how they react to her . . . but I've become convinced that just like people, some dogs hit it off, and some don't. There are personalities that mesh and those that do not.

Sarama definately has "friends" and there's not much in common between them: Lucas, the neutered male German Shepherd; Booboo the neutered male Pekingnese; Sadie, the spayed female Boxer; Scuba, the unaltered male Cocker Spaniel; Tucker the neutered male Pomeranian/Yorkie mix; Kramer, the male (neutered?) elderly lab-who know's what mix . . . she just gets on with some dogs (as in adores their company) and not with others. And not all of these dogs let her be the boss . . . Lucas is dominant to her (he's king of the neighborhood, no dog challanges him); BooBoo and Tucker stand up to her when she tries to bully, Scuba just seems oblivious to status; Sadie and Sarama have yet to work it out and Kramer just gives her a look that says . . I'm too old for this, kid.

I consider it equivalent to me liking some people and not liking others . . .not being able to tell you exactly why I like some folks. And, these dogs like her back . . . I think its the same reason . . .they just get on well with each other.

Likewise, there are dogs she doesn't like . . .the unaltered male boxer down the street (name unknown) that she will growl at if she sees him from my car and a certain bull terrier at the dog park (name also unknown) come to mind.

Walker never really cared one way or another until he hit 2 then he picked and chose but it was dogs that he knew he hated. Before that he jsut ignored them adn went on his merry way. Im jsut worried one of these dogs is gonna get lose and attack him adn because he is a shepard in my area he will be labeled dangerous and since he already has a bite on record but was never labeled what they would do to him. I think hes reacting more to it though becuase hes trying to protect me more. Sometimes I wish I could just tell him to be a freaking normal dog for once instead of a protection freak. but you get what you ask for huh LOL.

Lily gets aggressive sometimes with other dogs, but she HATES men with a passion. The only guy she will happily approach to be loved on is my father and thats it. If we walk down the street to go to the park, mountains or feed store, if their is a guy near by, she will stand directly infront of me, hackles up and do that growel bark "dont you dare look or touch my girl" snarl.(Ggggrrr....ar! ar ar!!) guys get scared and make sure they walk on the other side of the street when I walk Lily. However She is easily controlled when she is in aggressive attack mode. And she listens to me if I give her a check and say in a low voice " Knock it off..." She'll stop and go back to normal. The vet said its the Rottweiler part of her that is really protective of me, but I'm not sure.

Malakai dislikes boxers...he will let out a deep growl if one approaches him. I don't blame him though, he's been attacked twice by a boxer, and most around here are nerotic and have no manners.
