Zora howls. Every time the phone rings, she'll sit infront of it and howl if now one answers. Its the ONLY time she howls.
Gipsy never howled!

So does your dog(s) howl? If so, when and why? :p

The boys howl for the usual reasons - sirens in the distance or coyotes. The embarrassing part is that Murphy and Mick are horrible at it. Their voices break or squeak in mid-howl, it's pretty bad. Riley has a better voice (he's a baritone) but he only howls at coyotes, and not that often. He's more inclined to bark at them.

My old crew of Patch, Sam, Emily, and Holly would 'sing' every morning around 4:30am, when we went out to feed the horses. Patch was the choir mistress, who would start things off, and the rest harmonized pretty well. Good thing we don't have any close neighbors. :)

Finn howls if he's in his crate and feels that he shouldn't be. Which isn't often, and his howl is so wee and pathetic that I chuckle.

"AAAwooooooooooo...?"

SING ME THE SONG OF YOUR PEOPLE, PAYTON

It's a little lower in range now but it still sounds pretty close to this.

Nope, haven't heard any howling from Jubel in 3.5 years. Some of the neighborhood dogs will start howling together sometimes when we hang out in the park. It seems to make Jubel a bit nervous I think. He goes on alert and starts looking all around us for any threats. I think he's getting used to it more and more as he reacts less when they start howling now. It's not THAT common an occurrence though.

Mine don't, but Ollie does occasionally. Usually if my mom leaves for work before I get up in the am (which is very rare), then he'll howl because he knows I'm home but he's crated.

Twice he's howled just because he's excited and both times were hilarious. The funniest time being when we were on vacation and staying with the dogs in a cabin. That must have turned him into a little wolf cub, because he jumped on the couch, threw his head back and howled. We laughed so hard.

None of the paps howl.... except Bernard. He doesn't yap like the others and instead goes 'Wooo wooo wooooooooooo' like a tiny hound dog. Harry did that too (Nard's uncle) and Nard's mom and littermate did too but none of the other papillons did. Always odd to me but the four of them are 1/2-3/4ths Japanese lines so maybe those lines just bay like that? The breeder was always slightly perplexed at how different their vocalizations are too.

The other paps have shown no indication of howling, just screeching, chirping, and yapping.

The shelties on the other hand were all major howlers. They'd all howl with you if you started up and Nikki loved howling with things like... certain songs, certain words, sirens, the blender, my clarinet, the piano, etc. I miss being able to lead a howling chorus with the dogs.

The only time I have ever heard Squash howl is once when I was fooling around with Maisy, Pip, and the scooter in the alley and he was in the house by himself. It was the most mournful, very saddest sound I've ever heard. Really an all out hooowwwlll and definitely a WHERE ARE MY OTHERS? kind of thing. My husband says that occasionally he howls when I leave the house, too.

Maisy arooo arooos sometimes. But she doesn't howl with sirens, etc. or if you try to get her to.

And Pip has a whole repertoire of trills and aroos that come close to a howl when he's excited or anticipating something fun. But he doesn't howl with sirens or stuff like that, either.

Oh Jubel has all sorts of vocalizations and I LOVE the rooos, try and encourage them as much as I can and would love to get it on cue. But roos and howls are much different to me.

I like the part at the end where he breaks into warbling.
That's my favorite part too hahahah. It was super adorable when Georgie howled for like, two days, and it was a VERY similar song. I wanted to get them to do it together so I could conduct a chorus. But she really only did it about three times and now she doesn't howl anymore. =|

I want to put it on a cue because I find it sorta cute, but the only way I can guarantee to get him to howl now that he's older is if I leave him behind. =P Doesn't lend itself well to any kind of training...

Oh my, that is beautiful. Get that boy on stage.

Feist yodels quite a bit, like roo-roo-roo. She full on wolf-style-head-thrown-back howled yesterday morning because I wasn't paying enough attention to her. Drama queen.

Wesley never howls, he just makes strange whiney noises.

My dogs growing up would all howl to sirens. They had a very particular routine and they all chimed in together and offset each other perfectly. Really wish I had recorded it at some point.

Abrams has howled when he's outside on his chain and gotten stuck. It is the most pathetic noise ever. Cynder also howls when she is left alone and feeling left out. Again, very pathetic sound.

Lincoln does sometimes when I leave them and they hear me still in the house, not so much since Tsuki passed (she used to howl too). Stryder joins in too, but it's the most pathetic howl ever. Think of Eeyore howling and you've got Stryder.

I don't think Kiba or Charlie howl, I can pick out the boys and maybe one more.

I haven't heard Crossbone howl yet! He is a pretty quiet dog, it's rare for him to make any vocalizations (unless it's barking because the disc/ball isn't being thrown fast enough)

Watson likes to sing the song of his people :)

Of course even regular basenji noises are more like a crow or a howl than a bark anyway.

He howls if he feels abandoned... As in I have left the premises to go somewhere without him.

Yarrow howls a lot, he doesn't really bark, even his bark is like a cross between a bark and a howl. He howls when he's sad and when he's happy and when Onyx is barking, etc etc.

I think he has a pretty nice howl.

Sometimes when he gets going Onyx will join in too, her howl is actually quite nice and low too, when she is not barking.

About 30 seconds into this video they are both howling...
