Lately Sal has developed a bad behavior and it is the first time I have had a dog do it.

He likes to wait until another dog puts their head down to smell something and he'll run over to smell the same spot and then he'll quick raise his leg and pee on the other dog's head

Now I believe it is some display of dominance but he never acts in any other dominant way towards these same dogs. He even does it to Athena sometimes and he loves her very much.

As you can imagine people are not overly thrilled about this but Sal still wins the people over with his super friendly personality. Since he started doing it I have been working on stopping it and my efforts are paying off but he still sneaks in one every now and then.

Back ground info 5 year old intact Male.

I've read about that situation before. However, i don't remember where I read about it... if I can remember I will look it up. From what I remember it is a dominance gesture, and the way I think it was resolved was if you see your dog doing it, go up and assert your dominance with a stern "eh eh eh!" and taking your dog out of the situation.

Good that is how I been dealing with it....plus I give a heads-up notice to the other dog owners...lol

i think there was a thread here about that same problem, and that it was a dominance thing.

I have been getting better at catching him before he does it....He gets this quick short step gait on his way to do the deed.

That is funny and the sad thing is my dog has done that to my sister's schnauzer. Three times in a row. Let's just say after that my sister's dog (which was white) had to have a bath.

It is a dominance thing...

Sorry, but I had to laugh. With all of Brutie's antics it is always nice to know other people are in the same boat with me...

But how did the dogs who were showered on react? Sorry, I am just being nosy. That has never happened with my dog.... except one of my neighbours' dog does weird things when Speckles does her numbers. He pees on her stool and sometimes after she has peed, he slurps it up. I think it's digusting, but hey, what am I to do?

What do the dogs pee'd on do? Really nothing, they don't seem to mind much. None of them have gotten mad. A few have shaken their head and not looked happy but thats it. Some don't even seem to notice.

Sal licks up pee from females some times also.....yuck!
