We've done the "what do you feed" thread, so how about this for a change. What do you add to your dogs food?

I would be more keen on supplementing if I was feeding kibble, but I don't feel the need to supplement as much with a raw diet, however I do supplement some.

Sierra gets at least fish oil (currently I'm using a fish/hemp/coconut oil blend that I LOVE), and plain yogurt and I do give her glucosamine/chondroitin a few times a week but mostly as a preventative at this point.

I'm considering adding: Kelp, brewers yeast with garlic through the summers (it's a bit too late to start this year and effectively work as flea prevention), and potentially bee pollen.

When she does (rarely these days) get kibble, I tend to go heavier on supplements and I make sure to add warm water and a touch of something fresh if I have anything in the fridge that's safe to add.

All three of mine get 1000mg fish oil and a couple tablespoons of plain yogurt in the morning. We do also supplement with glucosamine and chondroitin sometimes (when i can find it cheap lol).

My older girl is currently injured, so she's also getting some chinese herbs and homeopathics from our vet. When she's feeling 100% she also get a rice glycoprotein supplement - GP Joint or Recovery.

Bamm gets fish oil whenever I have some on hand
I also give him the digestive enhancer from Natures Farmacy... does wonders for him esp since he used to have some stomach issues and would get diarrhea often.
Lastly... I give him a tiny bit of this powder of Superfood Plus made my Dr Schulze's.. You're supposed to mix it with water or juice for people... but for Bamm I just sprinkle the powder on his food and he absolutely loves it. It's been amazing for him actually. It's actually helped a lot with his allergies since his allergies were starting to get bad when we moved to New Mexico.

it depends on the supplement, some of them can prevent diseases, but I take care of not overmedicating

I use fish oil and right now I'm using phyto-flex from NaturesFarmacy. It's a bone/joint/soft-tissue supplement.

Basically took everything I was giving seperately and put it into one supplement.

I tend to flip-flop on supplements. I find one the dogs do well on and then I find something else I'd like to try so I switch. I just bought 5lbs of this phyto-flex, so we will be using it for a couple of months.

Fish oil daily with Vitamin E approx 2x/week. He also occasionally gets joint supplement treats, as a preventative measure, but I haven't been consistent about that lately.

I used to supplement with a lot more but honestly it just got to be too much for him (and me!). He does better with less.

We do have an upcoming appointment with a homeopath so I may end up adding something upon a recommendation.

B is on premade raw. (He also gets Benedryl and Pepcid daily, but those aren't really supplements.)

When I'm feeding prey model I religiously supplement with kelp, salmon oil and vit e, leafy green veggie purees, yogurt/goats milk/etc, garlic and over-ripe fruits. Plus gluc/chon for Gonzo and Solid Gold Seameal &/or multi-vitamins for both.

With pre-made, I supplement with fresh food and the above but less often... there are plenty of veggies and supplements in pre-made raw.

Kiba is on 500mg of glucosamine and cranberry tablets to help support/strengthen her bladder (she has bladder stones atm).

I feel bad now for supplementing, but not sure how or what.

My "supplements" to either their raw diet or their EVO/TotW/what have you are chicken feet (mostly Daisy - I try not to let her go a day without them, I'm a bit more lax on the others...) for the joint support, and smelt fish (2 per doggie!) for the omegas :)

Fran> no if he is doing well on a good food then he shouldnt need supplimenting.

I don't consider adding kelp to a home made raw diet supplimenting as its part of the diet.

I am thinking about adding some glucosamine or other joint medication for Kaiden and Dekka, not that they need it yet. I won't supplement young dogs with it, but Kaiden is turning 7 this year and Dekka is 5.5 (gasp)

Duke has some problems with his hips already at 4 years old so I have been adding in shark cartilage for the last year and it has helped him so much.

My pups don't get supplemented either. Chloe was on some fish oil for awhile to see if it would help with her itchiness (although her coat and skin are great), but it didn't do anything even after four months, so I stopped giving it to her.
