That dogs have good days and bad days just like humans?

Gus appears to be on REALLY good form today, he's really cheerful.. It could be the fact that he's basking in the knowledge that Perle got in trouble for stealing one of the cat dishes when I popped out for literally 2 seconds and I caught her red handed slinking out of the kitchen with said dish in her mouth..

But it got me wondering, if they have up days, and down days..

Yesterday I had an appointment in town and had to leave at 12pm, Florent was here having his lunch and he said that Gus was just MISERABLE, not even a biscuit could cheer him up. Having said that he is a real mummies boy and he likes to throw a massive guilt trip when I go out without him, which admittedly is rare.

Just wondering if dogs ever just have the blues like we do, for no apparent reason?

I don't know about the "blues" but I know they have up and down days. What causes them, I have no clue...........could be an upset tummy, or maybe they get headaches like us too, and I am POSITIVE they can feel bad when missing someone or something.

Both of mine can be that way, today racing around acting crazy, tomorrow, laying on the couch with sad eyes like their best friend is missing :(

And don't you just feel crippled with guilt, and try everything in your power to cheer them up, even if it involves taking them out for a ride in the car.. I know I do.. :rofl1:

Yes I do. Then I start to wonder if the dogs have learned tricks from the kids! :rofl1:

I can just imagine the kids schooling the dogs "Now Phoebe, if you want mom to give you extra biscuits this is what you do......" LMAO

Perle has gone one better, she has taught herself to shake.. Like uncontrolled fear shaking, although it's all for show.. She's never had anything to be fearful of, i've never raised my hand to her EVER!

If she's naughty and you scold her, she starts trembling like a jelly.. I mean how on earth are you supposed to be annoyed with a dog that just looks so pittiful. And BINGO, madamoiselle gets away with blue murder because she just looks so so sorry..

:lol-sign: Yep..........you've gotten lots of practice for real kids there Louie! The smart ones learn what works REAL QUICK, just like dogs! hahahahaha

My human daughter learned VERY fast that writing an apology to mom in poem form will get her punishment diminished by a lot! She did one at about age 7 out of sincere regret, found out it melted me and then it took off from there! Really though, she was only fooling herself.........writing those poems got her to think about what was wrong and what she might have done differently ;)

I still have many of them, they are quite sweet to look back on, LOL, she probably never thought to use Pearl's trick, it would have been much quicker than a poem! hahaha

Oh yes. Toker has a bad day when she can't go for a walk. She just looks sad and bored. I hate this severe cold weather we've been having lately. It was 7 a few hours ago and now it's actually gone down to 3 F. I play with her in the house. And I'll go out with her in the yard and throw snow balls for very short bursts. But it just isn't the same. She is just ecstatic when we go for walks.

The Chis don't mind not going for walks and they can get a little exercise inside. And they don't like the cold.

I would imagine dogs can get head aches or not feel quite up to par sometimes. They are rather stoic and it's hard to tell if they're having a really bad day. My feeling is that they probably do from time to time, but they're such good sports that they don't make too big of a fuss.

Oh, I'm sure they do. I'm also sure they are adept at faking us out when it suits them, lol.
Oh I know this is true..

My parents dog developed a "Sympathy limp" he used to limp when he wanted everyone to fuss over him.. He got caught out one day when he started limping on the WRONG leg.. :rofl1:

He just loves being the patient, mum had him up the vets numerous times for his limp, and there was nothing wrong with him.. Other than the fact that he just basked in the attention that it got him!
