Very Sad.

I can understand the difficulty of policing this or to stop the European coutries and North America from purchasing it. When there is money involved it is impossible to stop.

In some countries they do not value dogs/cats as pets as we do. They view them as vermin (like we would view rats). Although, myself I would never wish this cruelity apon any animal (and yes, even in North America we do some pretty cruel things to animals as well)...it's hard to implement our values on another society that has different values.:(

I have no problem with other cultures seeing animals that we see as pets as food, vermin, or a food source. What i DO most definately have a problem with is blatant, unnecessary cruelty. I know Western countries aren't perfect either, but i don't know of any slaughter houses that treat their animals in the way described in that article. If they did, someone would report it and hopefully something would be done. The problem i had with that article (other than the fact that it was just sick) was that the authorities in that country didn't see a problem with the animals treatment. That is the real problem. Until the people in charge see something wrong, nothing will be done. And the only way to do that, is a boycott or something similar.

Ok, Don't get me wrong I think that the article and the cruelty is terrible, but the media always has a way of making something sound worse than it really is...My dad and my sister went to China earlier this year and they did not see anyhting like that...and you can't just say that it is all of China because it is not! My family is in the process of adopting from China right now, and my little sister in China doesn't do that, we have friends in China they don't do that! Ya know what, it s just a few people who do that...and there are people in the US and everywhere that do terrible things to animals too! You cannot just blame the whole culture for something that a small group of people did!

A lot of your merchandise you have there was made from China. So, I think If you'll ban china you won't even get to surf the internet.

I think many of the comments made by "Sir" Paul and his wife, are demeaning and largely generalizing. You should not put every person in China into one category like that. It is wrong.
Any country you visit is going to do something you disagree with. While I abhor killing an animal for fur only, some people don't. But this entire article made me cringe. Both at the star and his wife, and the purported incidents of how the animals are being treated.

Sadly this is not true. I know most of you have heard me ranting about slaughter houses before but I just think people need to be more educated about where there food is coming from.

My boyfriend worked as a 'gutter' in a slaughterhouse and he said that the cows that arrived to be gutted were so freshly killed their hearts were still beating. By that time they had already been skinned as well. He would cut them open and at least one in every 10 cows would have a living fetus inside. He said they looked like they were about ready to be born. These fetuses would be thrown down a shoot to the basement where they would be hung upside down and their necks slit so their pure blood could be collected for experiments.

Quite often the cows would not be killed at the start of the process. Something would go wrong and they were still alive as they went through the skinning machines...

Not to mention the herds of cattle outside waiting to be herded into the slaughterhouse. They can smell the death and fear and hear the screams. :(

I think people get upset when they see their cute and cuddly friends (dogs and cats) and other cuddly animals (seals and minks) being treated cruelly. There isn't that much awareness brought about animals we consider food. I don't think there is a difference between them. They all know fear and pain and bleed just like any other mammal.

That being said you can't boycott China nor would I want to. Yes, there are some cruel things done there but name a country that doesn't do cruel things? I'd have to live on international water I think. :p

Sorry, A-S-P... it is cruel and it is REAL. I can send you the video link, if you'd like, so you can see for yourself. The cameras and the screaming animals don't lie... It's not EVERYONE doing this in China... but they LET it be done...

So do we Amy. Even those of us that get our meat from reputable sources (Renee, Mordy, Scarlette,... duck girl with the police dogs whose name I can't remember) and those of us who don't eat meat (Emma, me, Scarlette, .... Nedim? :D ) we don't have the power to stop it but we try. I'm sure there are plenty of people in China who fight the same thing and are just as powerless.

And I'm not saying the video isn't real (with PETA it may not be) but even if that does happen I'm pretty sure that would be one of the most extreme cases.

I know, Saje. We have similiar horrific actions here condoned by government (rodeos, mink farms, etc.). I guess it's just when your gov't condones the horrific, unnecessary treatment of our companion animals especially for vanity reasons... it just hits a raw nerve...

yeah. I just don't feel any different about a cow than I would about a dog. I know that most people made jokes about my rabbits being food and naming them 'stu' because it's just food for them. Hate that!

This just reminded me of something!
I remember when different countries were going to boycott Canada due to our cruelity to seals. I was talking to another Newf owner (bought a Newf from my friend) he lives in Finland. He and others were outraged when they found out that in Labrador they were clubbing young seals to death. This was done as they were interfering with our fishing industry:rolleyes:

The young Seals were being clubbed to death and not in a very humane manner. That is very cruel as well, so we can NEVER ever say we are better and more humane than China.

That makes me want to cry. That is so terrible. People should do something. How can people do such a thing?!! It's absolutely horrific! Omg those poor animals. I wish I could give people a taste of their own medicine. Those poor defensive pets. It's such a shame!

DoggyLuva1128, It's not just animals that are treated badly.:(
Think of all the children who don't speak out for themselves and are sexually exploited, abused, beat, emotionally drained from verbal abuse, tossed out onto the streets. Sold in the sex trade industry.
Then you have some countries where little girl children are not "favored" and there are allowances for how many children you have. I watched a documentary where mothers were taking baby girls and leaving them in the woods to die.

It's not just animals. If we can't stop abuse and horrific cruelity to humans....it's pretty hard to stop abuse with animals.

One more thing people forget (in any Country) are little children who experiement with animals...killing them and torturing them. We have this happen quite often throughout North America, no one really talks about it that often. When I was a child I watched as the neighborhood boys cornered a porcupine or raccoon and slowly kill it. Or satinists or people who practice horrific rituals on animals.

We humans can be very cruel and for some it seems to bring about a sick sort of pleasure. Horrible.

I remember when I was 13, I was running around with some neighborhood kids. They found a turtle and started kicking it up and down the street until it started bleeding to death. It's little shell broke all to pieces. I was screaming and crying. I was mortified.

Sorry, but the people do NOT let it be done...They have no idea that that is going on! Sorry if I sound mean, but I do not appreciate people saying stuff that they have never even seen! My baby sister is in China somewhere and I don't like people bashing her birth country when they do not even know!

You took my post the wrong way, obviously. Check out the other thread started by me next this one ("I am sickened *graphic*)... read through it, and you'll get the gist. Thanks to an organization of protesters, including chinese people, I'm sure, it got stopped. Geesh...

ETA: Not the animal cruelty, but at least one supporter of it... J.Crew buying and supporting it.
