Diagnosed with lymphoma

I'm so sorry! Well, he's laying out in his favorite snow drift right now! But really, he just sleeps all the time but gets feisty with his new stuffed baby (ponie). He had his first inline infusion of Vincristine on Tuesday. All is well (praise God). He's on prednisone every day... which makes him thirsty, so I've been coming home everday on my lunch hour to let him out.He's on the COP protocol for 7 weeks. Every Tuesday he gets the Vincristine injection. Every day he gets prednisone, then for 4 days inbetweem he gets the Cytoxan (Cyclopthosphamide) pill. Which I gave for the first time tonight. Scary stuff. It can cause internal bleeding I think?? Ok, gotta go rescue my baby and load him into my bed...
The prednisone is just a daily steroid to boost his system and make him feel good. It's not good for a person or animal long-term, but since we're only talking 6 months :-(
It boosts his hunger and thirst and makes him feel good. That was the first line of treatment if I didn't do the non-aggressive chemo. I had 3 choices... just prednisone to keep the pain down and give him 30-60 days, non-aggressive chemo with prednisone which will give him about 6 months if it works, or aggressive chemo where he would have to go to Purdue and be very sick (I wasn't about to do that). Just a note for you all... you CAN'T start your dog on nothing but prednisone then change your mind and do chemo. For some reason, the chemo won't work if the body already has prednisone in it.
On a good note, last night was his first dose of Cytoxan which is very toxic to the body and can cause internal bleeding. So far so good as he's had no red pee! I can tell he doesn't feel very good, though :-( He sleeps constantly. But he'll still get in his fuzzy-red-headed bouts and shake his ponie around in his mouth once in awhile

Whew! Glad to hear he's tolerating the Cytoxan so far. One thing about the sleeping - it's nature's most potent curative.
So you're near Purdue? I was born there. Went to my Dad's graduation from Engineering School when I was six weeks old - not that I remember, lol! I was accepted there and wanted to go, but the parents weren't about to let me go off to college three months after I'd turned sixteen. I really wanted to be an English major/philosophy minor. [sigh]

Cool, Renee! Yes, I live in Indianapolis, so Lafayette is only about an hour away. Sorry you didn't get your Purdue fix :-/ (I'm an IU grad, myself -- !!)
As for Eli's sleeping, I guess he slept all the time even before this, too, now that I think about it. I'm just so sensitive to everything he does now. When I see him rolly-pollying in the snow it makes my heart melt. And when he comes in looking like a snowman, it makes me laugh. And when he trots across the living room to try and beat me into the den, it makes me happy. And when he shakes his ponie in his mouth like he's a puppy, it makes me so happy I'm prolonging our time together as long as he's not suffering from the therapy...
I would sure like to post a pic of him here, but I don't know how...

Ha ha ha! Thanks, Renee! Well, I've got to go out of the country today for work and won't be back until next weekend. Eli and Hunter will be in good hands with Grammy! I'm going to set up all his meds for her in a pill organizer thingy :-(

Grammy here......I hadn't seen Eli since last tuesday's treatment and was thrilled how much brighter his eyes looked !! He, Hunter and Chip are all curled up by me right now. I'll keep you posted. Right now their Momma's in flight .....had to change flights due to connections and now has 4 changes ! Not a happy camper. Will keep you posted.
I "stayed in the closet" while our old "buddy" (haha1) was posting. Eli is the last of my home-whelped goldens. His 1/2 bro. Bubba was 2 when Eli was born and helped his Mommy I.B. clean the puppies. So, I was with Eli when he was born and will be to the end. BTW.. I'll be your adopted Grammy...I'm old enough. All the fur balls are sacked out after a good feed. When nite-nite time comes, Hunter will quickly take over 1/2 of my twin bed, Eli will curl up on a blanket beside my bed, and Chip will sulk unto his mat. Chip usually sleeps a hour with me then gets hot....so he forgives Hunter..
