Red ACD - As Jenn said - START A NEW TOPIC please if you'd like to continue on in the debate.

No there isn't any scars on the outside of the dog that you could physically see.
Almost all of our Sheltie breeders dogs have been de-barked for the exact same reason that Red stated a few posts up. All are happy and very healthy dogs that do not attract police attention from neighbours. They seem to recover very quickly - if not, the next day they seem 100% normal.
And your right, they DONT know that you can barely hear them barking lol

Almost everyone here is stating opinions on debarking...

But those who say it is not cruel, its a great procedure, Id get it done... are the ones that are allowed to talk.

Those who say they think it is a cruel procedure are told to stop debating.

Information, on the debarking process, is easily accessible on the web... if someone posts here they are bound to get others opinions of the situation, nothing here as turned ugly... so why cant people give their opinions?

Side Note: I left my opinion out, so I can not be considered as debating!

I don't think it is cruel at all. I remember one year I went to Disney World, and the hotel we stayed at was holding a Sheltie show. Every Sheltie around me was "snipped". I lived in a condo with my Boston Terr who loved to bark. I worked, and he stayed in a crate and still barked. It came down to either get rid of the dog or do something. My vet suggested a Bark Buster which is a collor that sends a 9 volt to the dog everytime it barks. I think that was more cruel than getting a surgery done. Poor Dudley was maybe 2 when I did this, and lived a long life of 15, and hardley ever barked. Poor baby, but it was better than getting rid of him.

What exactly is involved in the surgery? I know someone who is getting it done to their sheltie so I was just wondering what it invloved.

It irritates me when people do it to shelties. If you don't like barking, don't get a sheltie!
I agree. If you don't like barking, or any other "inconvenience" that comes with owning any dog, no matter what breed, don't get one! How would you like it if your parents got your vocal cords snipped because you talked to much or too loud??? But then again, that's just my opinion.
