People that want Labordoodles why don't they just get American water spaniels or Portugese Water Dog? Don't both breeds have all the qualities of the Lab/poodle mix?
Portugese water dog: Prone to hip dysplasia and PRA. Breeding stock should be tested for GM-1 Storage Disease, a fatal nerve disease that appears when a puppy is six months old.

American water spaniel: A variety of problems have cropped up from in the breed including cardiac abnormalities, cancer, hip dysplasia, diabetes, allergies, hypothyroidism, follicular dystrophy, epilepsy, and cataracts.

And no, I'm not lucky I got the dog I wanted. I got that because of research and because I met the parents, saw the temperment. Also, I'm not going to start the nature vs. nurture debate right now. I think anybody on here that owns a pit bull, and has fought this fight for years will agree, that you get out of a dog, what you put into it (yes, with a few exceptions).

I think we have had enough of this kind of talk, thank you. If you were a true dog lover, NO dog would "make you want to puke".
Please don't start up this crap again.

Pam
This is a forum, where people express their opinion.
I'm not saying the dog itself is making me want to puke just their name/owners/breeders/people who think they are breeds. NOT the dog itself.
I didn't start it up. I posted my opinion, then you yelled at me. Thus you started the 'argument' or whatever. *rolls eyes*

Jesus Christ! I DO NOT HATE MUTTS! I hate the morons who breed them, sell them, own them [as in they go around saying it's a maltipoo, and it's a breed, etc]. Etc.

I don't think anyone said they are breeding them. If they are in a shelter what are we supposed to do? Whatever you call them they deserve a loving home and to be treated as well as any other dog. You might want to take to some one about the "hurting yourself thing".
Adopt them, fine. Own them, fine. But when people go around breeding them, calling them breeds, or even by their puppymill name THEN it gets to me.
For the last time: I DO NOT HATE THE DOG, OR MIXIES!

That's probably why so many dogs never get adopted out. Too many people are too focused on what they want, and not willing to make a few concessions to save a shelter dog. Sad!

You don't have to throw a whole life away just because they are a little banged up a bit. People don't like a dog with history. Most people want a dog with no track record/clean slate/puppy.

I'd rather save a dog and fix the problem. I'd rather do that then make a mistake and have to admit that I started with a clean slate and I screwed up, which is what happens with most people and most puppies.

Well its good there are people like you around then, same as people that adopt children with special needs and unwanted children, you have to be a special kind of person to take on someone elses baggage.

You are very right BD. If people are so dead set on getting a mixed breed puppy not from a shelter, how about get on of the free to good home puppies in the paper? Or the ones that are like $50? Our Chow/Lab Precious was free and one of the best dogs I know. Wait, she isn't a "mix"... She is a Chab. LOL

I dont think there is such a thing as a free puppy where I live in Vancouver:confused. I did go on the spca and rescue site and got a list of all them and probably searched over half of them and there were alot, there were no small dogs, there were a couple of senior dogs, but they were dogs that shed and also they were no good with children or any other animals.
That is what we found when my sister inlaw was looking for a pound puppy,
the little dogs that do end up in there it is usually because they are not good with children and are nippy

Well, here there is always free to good homes ads. She is there now. Hope you take good care of her and that her parents are neutered soon.

You still came off very rude. I had breeding mixes too but she didn't ask our opinions on that.

The breed clubs are starting to get on the ball about intentional cross breeding. ANYONE found breeding their dog for the expressed purpose of creating a mix breed dog will have that dogs registration revoked and that person is prohibated from ever registring a little with any breed club or AKC for life.
