I used prefolds on both kids for a while. Since we're staying with my mom now I don't want to be putting poo laundry in her machine (he doesn't have newborn poo anymore, bleah. lol).
It was really wonderful and saved soooo much money. And the cute!
There aren't any pictures of Aurelia in her cloth diapers because those covers were all old off white PUL fabric. She looked cuter in dresses. Here's one of Samuel in a cover I knitted though:
It's knitted flat. His prefold is closed with a snappi, and the cover is pinned with big diaper pins. There wasn't any danger of poking him since the knit doesn't resist the pins, and it's way more adjustable that way. The pattern called for buttons (I worried about choking) or velcro, which stuck horribly to the wool and was not awesome.
Wool does an amazing job of holding in the pee. I never went back to plastic stuff after that.
