My luck just keeps getting better and better this year.. *Le sigh*

Some stupid woman ran into me on Friday night..

She apparently "Didn't see" my indicator to turn left and tried to overtake me just as I started to turn.. She ran into me at about 70mph.. She was of course speeding, and trying to overtake in a no overtaking zone..

Gendamerie (Police) came out and she got a fine of €90 and 2 points on her licence for.. "Undue care and attention"

Her car is TOTALLED, it flipped into the air, rolled about 3 times before doing a 180 and ending up on it's side facing in the other direction. Luckily she got out with only a couple of scratches on her fingers.. She was otherwise unharmed.

Even though it was entirely her fault I still felt incredibly guilty.. Funny how that works isn't it.

Everyone's fine, ambulance came out and checked everyone over, I was shaken but not unduely stirred! ;)

At least it's only material damage, as long as everyone came out alive and well i'm not too bothered..

Tomorrow the garage is coming to take my poor 4x4 away to be looked over and the repairs estimated.

Just what I need.. The start of winter and no 4x4 to pull my trailer.. Still I will get a courtesy car from the garage, but it's not the same.

Oh wow, I'm so glad you're ok. How scary. I was in a similar car accident a year and a half ago.. well, someone ran a red light and hit me going about 55mph. Scary as heck. I know what you mean about feeling guilty even though it wasn't your fault.

Luckily on Monday I will have my compensation check from the insurance. They already paid for the car, but I had to go to the hospital because I had horrible whiplash, and they did a CT scan. The insurance company paid for all the medical bills plus $1,000 :)

I hope they pay a fair amount for your car damages.

I am just PRAYING that they don't write my car off (Estimate the repairs at more than the value of the car) because I will NEVER be able to find a replacement with the money that they'll give me, even though as it was her fault my insurance company will fight tooth and nail to get me the most money that they can, it won't get me a replacement 4x4.

And I just don't have the money to spend on a car right now.

Yeah my 4x4 is 15 years old, and is probably worth peanuts in a monetairy sense, but to me it's worth an awful lot in a practical sense, what with the horses and bringing the wood in to heat the house this winter.

Oh god! I'm glad you're ok!! :-o I hate situations like that. Some guy going about 170 on the autobahn almost hit me while I was speeding up to get into the correct lane on the autobahn. He was WAY to fast. Speedlimit is 120. Friday night as well.
Bahh but shortly before I got my picture taken by the freaking radar control. :( I was going about 65 in a 50 zone... oops. I hate places that go down hill and you just drive normally and don't notice that you are going to fast.

OH LOUIE! That was quite an accident if it flipped, rolled, and spun her! You are both very lucky ladies it seems :) Very glad there are no injuries to report.

If they "write off" your 4x4, do you get the option to keep the vehicle (or buy it back at worth from the inusrance) That is what happened to my son. His truck was parked out front, the flower delivery man backed into it (this was Valentines day) and the insurance counted it as totaled. (written off as you say) His truck was about 15 years old too, but perfect shape........no rust, great interior, and still less than 100k. The driver door was smashed, and that was the only problem. The insurance wrote him a check for the value, and then charged him about $300 (I think it was something like that) to buy the truck from them. He fixed the door and drove it another year or so until HE wrecked it but good, LOL

Oh gosh! That could have been so much worse. It sounds like a terrible accident! That woman sounds so dumb. People like that shouldn't be allowed to drive. I am glad no one was hurt. I sure hope your car isn't totalled.

THey have totaled both my old cars for the reasons you wrote about GUstav, be prepared. Didn't matter that they had had more than half of the parts replaced, one I had put in more than they gave me total.
I am so glad you are ok. Sounds postively horrific.

How scary. It's sad that people don't realize what can happen when they are in just such a rush they feel they need to try to speed around people. I'm glad to hear that nobody was injured, hopefully she'll think twice before trying to get to her destination a mere two minutes earlier next time. I hope you're able to get your car fixed!

Scary!! Glad that everybody came out okay. That must have been REALLY scared to watch the lady flipping around after hitting you... yikes yikes yikes.
I had some guy almost hit me once (well, obviously more than once, this just sticks out to me, LOL)... he was watching the lights and saw the opposite light turn yellow, and apparently decided to go. I was already in the intersection before it turned... and he literally almost ran right into me. I didn't do ANYTHING wrong and I cannot figure out what the heck HE thought he was doing. He still had a red light because mine was just yellow. But apparently he thought the red light didn't apply to him.

It scared the crap out of me, made me furious, but at the same time, I still felt like somehow it was my fault that I nearly got hit, too... I don't know why that is, LOL.

I don't know if your insurance is geared the same way ours is here, Louie, but here, if the other person is at fault their insurance company is compelled to "make you whole." They have to restore you to a situation as good as you were in before the wreck.

Gods, I am so glad everything's all right with you otherwise though!

One thing I have never scrimped on is insurance, my brother when he was doing his internship for his law degree worked in a claims office where all the insurance claims came in.. He said that trying to get money out of some of the "discount" insurance companies was like trying to pull hens teeth, sure you pay less for the actual insurance but you're always out of pocket at the end of the day.

I'm seriously well covered, so now it's all in the insurance company's hands so HOPEFULLY things will work out alright fingers crossed.

I know that there's alot to be said about big gas guzzling trucks (Well mines a diesel) but thank god for my old bus, if not we wouldn't have gotten out in such a good state. Especially when I saw how her little Renault Megane crumpled like a ball of paper.. :yikes:

IF she caused the accident isnt' her insurance the one to cover you? Renee it never worked out that way for us. Wish I would have known you back then.
