Hello!

I am in the process of introducing a new service to the petcare industry and would greatly appreciate 5 minutes of your time to complete a short questionnaire. As you are all animal lovers I am calling on you as I feel that people with your expertise and experience would be invaluable in supplying the information I require.

It would be of great help to me and ultimately to the petcare industry! Not to mention our 4-legged companions!

Please PM me if you feel that you would like to contribute your thoughts and comments on this new petcare service. It will only take 5 minutes and your input will be invaluable and so very much appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

Ok Fair enough. Here are my answers. Your part of the bargain is...no PMs.

1. How many dogs do you have? 1 plus 3 cats

2. In which country/state do you live? NY

3. What do you do with your dog/s when you go on vacation? Please delete which DOES NOT apply.
Have agreement with another person. We look after each other's pets during our absences. This includes visits to the home and taking the dog to our home for visits, walks, feeding, hugs etc etc. Gratefully, our dogs like each other and we both have cats

5. Would you consider an alternative if you knew your pet would be exceptionally well cared for? Please delete which DOES NOT apply. a. I don't think so, I prefer to do what I always do.

6. Would you consider sending your pet to someone else's home for the vacation if: Please delete which DOES NOT apply.

a. you were able to meet the person in advance as well as have a look at their premises to ensure the safety of your pet.
b. you were assured and could see without doubt that this person is indeed a great dog lover.
c. you were assured that your pet would receive 24/7 attention and love and that he/she would have access to home, garden, couches, beds, TV etc.?
d. you had peace of mind knowing that your pet would be treated exactly the way he/she would be in your own home?
e. you were assured that your pet’s routine would be followed (ie: feeding times etc.); medication administered if necessary; basic grooming was offered; transport to veterinarian if necessary – in otherwords, again, being treated exactly as he/she would be by you?
f. you were able to introduce your pet to any other pets living on the premises in advance to ensure that they were all going to get on without a problem?
g. you were assured that there would at all times be no more than 4 dogs per home, including any the part-time mommy may own?

i. Other (Please Specify): ALL of the above, plus assurance that all other animals and people in the home had all shots and no contagious diseases.

8. Which services would encourage you to make use of our services? Please delete which is not that important to you:

a. Veterinarian Access
b. Group Play
c. Cleanliness
d. Training
e. On-site grooming
f. Free roam of house & secure garden.
g. Security assured
h. 24/7 attention
i. Strict adherence to pet’s personal daily routine.

9. Are there any other services you would like offered that are not listed in Question 7? Phone in daily

b. Grooming
d. Training

h. Other (Please specify)as mentioned earlier, I have an agreement with a friend for when one of us is gone

12. What would you consider a fair daily rate for a personalized 24/7 petcare option like this? (please note, you would need to supply the food for the duration of your pet’s stay).I really don't know, but I will know if I am willing to pay it when I see it. lol

13. Would it be fair to charge more than normal kennel/boarding facilities considering that your pet will be treated like royalty even to the extent of sleeping on the bed if so required?YES. Absolutely

15. Do you have any reservations/concerns about a service like this?Of course. My dog is a member of my family and I probably would not use any service until I was able to get a reference from someone I trust

16. Of all the services available for dogs when you go on vacation which would be your first choice? Please delete which DOES NOT apply. d. Petsitter

17. What is the reason for your choice in Question 16?
I like the thought that my pets can stay in their own venue, less stress. I also have three cats to consider and a service such as described here would only resolve my dog's needs but not my cats' needs

18. Which category includes your age? Please delete which DOES NOT apply. g. Not relevent.

Hello Toby, I am very familiar with the concept of your service or one you'd like to start. Being done in NY, a central office has a network of employees that take clients dogs into their homes to board. They take the initial reservation, direct it to appropriate local/employee and that person takes in the dog. The problem with this is rarely are these persons "professionals" in the petcare industry and some do not have the required enclose facility to ensure the dog does not escape, especially when they've taken multiple dogs into their home. It is a great concept, but there are problems that occur when someone has several dogs all from different families, that they do not know, in their home.

Yes, i hear what you are saying but we have been doing this for 12 years now (in South Africa) and are extrememly professional about it. All our ladies are animal lovers of note, have secure premises etc. and in 12 years we have not had one problem. But i do thank you for your input as well. It helps to know what else is out there. I am really just trying to find out if this is something that is needed/wanted in other parts of the world. We have been highly successful but that is because of our experience apart from the fact that our 4-legged clients are our top priority, those visiting and those staying in the selected home. We don't allow more than 4 per home - and that includes any that are in full time residence there. If you have any more comments/advice to give i would welcome it! Kind regards, Michele

Toby, if you are half as calm, courteous and professional at what you do as you are on this board in the face of hard core skepticism, no wonder you are successful.
