Well, I was at the park with Eevee today, and we were just getting out of the car, when this woman appeared in front of my parked car on the sidewalk, jerking around two very confused, overy-excited, possibly reactive/aggressive boxer mixes on haltis. This woman was mad (you can take that either way and it fits lol), and her dogs were just all over the place, so she was becoming even more angry and jerking them harder, and muttering all kinds of expletives under her breath, like "you *$#@ing dogs... <insert more cussing here>... What the &%$* is WRONG with you two?" I was speechless... I honestly just did not know what to say, and all I could really do was pay attention to my own dog.

Eevee saw them and started becoming excited, herself, so I had her sit and watch me for burnt-hotdog-flavored-kibble, and she calmed down and forgot about them. She was SO good!! The lady saw us, and stormed off down the sidewalk still cussing at her own poor confused dogs.

It was a horrible display, but to be honest, it made me feel better about myself and well-behaved, confident, and not confused my own dogs are. Is that bad? >O_O;<

Haha, sometimes it takes someone truly awful to make you feel good about yourself, sad but true. Happens to me all the time with my horses - re: feeding, handling, training, etc. I'm happy to say my horses are fat, respectful and well trained for what age/personality they are/have... but people don't usually come out and pat you on the back for something like that, so when you see a not so fat/respectful/well trained animal, it reminds you just how good you and yours are. :) Good on ya.

When I was a teacher we used to have a metaphor. Follow an ugly kid home and knock and an ugly parent will answer the door. It's kind of like that with pets too. Considering her methods, it's a wonder she was able to hold onto them at all.

We had a similar experience yesterday at the vet. This keeshond was outside, right at the door, being held by 2 little kids. The dog was barking it's head off and being aggressive towards everything that went by, and it was a lot of traffic as it was the main door. When we went by I had to block the dog off from getting at Daisy. The mother was inside and had popped her head out when the dog was going ballistic, and then made comments about how bad the dog was and all. He was there to get fixed. It was pretty clear the dog had no training at all. If you have a dog like that why are 2 7 year olds holding it, inches away from the main door? Leave it in the car till your name is called!

It pretty much makes one sick to think that there are probably thousands and thousands of dogs being mistreated by stupid people like that every day. Yes, you should feel good that you don't belong to that population. You take good care of your dog and you should be proud. Nothing wrong with that.
