I am a responsible dog owner. I know the ins and outs of my dog (speaking about Buddy here). I know when he is having a bad day, I know when he is having a good day. I know when that pesky little puppy is getting on his nerves because I know Buddy.. his temperment, his body language...to a T.
Why is it so much for me to ask the same of others? Why are people so ignorant and irresponsible these days? I just don't get it. I ask myself these questions almost daily and I still do not have an answer. And all of these irresponsible people have dogs! People are ruining dogs! I just can't stand it anymore!!!
Here is what happened.
We go to the dog park, it's a slow day being a holiday and the boys are excited. Buddy gets to go in first and so he does. Then Banzai and I go in. Not less than a minute that we are in the gate, this golden retreiver is all over Banzai... growling, snapping, being dominant. I get the dog off and curse about the absentee owner in my mind.
Then this dog goes after Banzai again and the owner decides to claim him and say that he's "just playing and he's never hurt anything before nor would he." Fine, we go about our merry way.
Buddy is playing fetch and enjoying himself. Out of nowhere, the darn GR is after him. Nipping, attempting to hump, snarling, the whole nine yards. By this time we have had enough. Buddy is under our voice control at all times and is being good, now we are trying to get this GR to back off.
At this time, the situation is dangerous. This is simply not play. This is aggression. I am fending the dog off while the owner simply stands by. I step away and call Buddy to me and the dog attacks Buddy.
All of a sudden Buddy is yelping on the ground, all bystanders rush to him to ensure that he's okay while the guy with GR grabs his dog and starts walking away.... accusing Buddy of biting his dog! Buddy had his d@mned tennis ball in his mouth the entire time, he was only trying to get away. Whenever this dog approached Buddy, Buddy took the submissive stance and went to the ground. He had no interest in this dog whatsoever.
Then the guy starts yelling at us, telling us that if we don't like dogs we shouldn't go to the dog park. All the while accusing Buddy of biting his dog. Which is why his dog acted the way it did. D@mned idiot.
So, I've had enough. We got his name and his phone number. I am filing a report. After speaking with the bystanders, it appears this dog had issues the moment he walked in the gate. I have simply had enough.
Un-neutered, un-trained, male dogs do not belong in the dog park.
