Can your dogs chew bones or highly valued things together?

Can your dogs easily sit in close proximity with chews (bully sticks, antlers, rawhide, etc) and are totally okay with it, or do you have to be more vigilant?

As Jackson's gotten older, he's gotten worse with this around other dogs. He's never once growled at a human for getting close to him while he's chewing something of importance, but other dogs best not be. He's okay if he's in the same room with another dog who is not paying attention to him (i.e. laying on the couch, not looking at him or whining, etc) but if a dog begins to walk towards him while he is chewing something, he will get extremely snarky and may even start a fight.

When I'm at my dads house, we never let the 3 dogs have chews around each other because my dads JRT mix is very possessive of chews as well. Her and Jackson have gotten into a few times, their personalities don't mesh, because she is always a straight up b*tch and Jax just won't put up with it so he fights back.

But I was surprised that even my moms new 10 week old pup who got close to him today while chewing was about to get it. He used to be very tolerant of pups.

No more chews until the other pup goes upstairs to my moms room for the night from now on....

Anywho - how are your dogs?

I always get envious of people who just have all their dogs chilling next to each other chewing on bones and not having to be hypervigilant lol.

Mine are great. Nobody cares. Even when I give them high value bones in different areas of the yard, they all purposely gather closer together. They genuinely seem to enjoy chewing together.

Quid can because nobody caes enough to take his chews.

Gimmick doesn't chew recreationally.

On the rare occasions that Gambit chews things, he can be possesive, butits never gone beyond a growl. Neither Quid or Gimmick are brave enough to try him.

None of them have ever fussed at a human

They're alright, I guess?

We leave bones and chews on the floor and such and they don't get huffy over them.

Abrams can be chewing on whatever and Cynder doesn't care. If Cynder is chewing on something, Abrams thinks that object should be is, because how dare someone have something fun and he doesn't. So he'll go up to her and try to take it. She typically lets him, which is why I'm assuming he still does it. If we start to see him approach her and we tell him "NO", he gets the, "Well, fine, then, be mean..." look on his face and goes and occupies himself with something else.

He does that when the cat tries to play with toys, too. He'll steal them from her. Jerk dog.

But I can't decide if he is being possessive, or if he just wants to play keep away? Because he and Michael play "hoard the stash" all of the time and have a grand time doing it.

With dogs he knows he can't take things from, he doesn't try, but I have a feeling he'd get really pissy if another dog tried to take his chewbone. But just being BY him doesn't bother him in the slightest - if the chew is brand new and still all nice and shiny, if the cat or Cynder walks too close he'll just pick up the bone and move somewhere else.

Mine are fine. Meg can take anything she wants from Gusto without much of a fuss from him, but he's the one who really enjoys chewing stuff, so she rarely bothers. Usually he finishes his treat first (cleaning out the marrow bone, finishing the chew), and Meg is sick of hers before she is done. She'll sit around with it next to her for a while longer, while Gusto stays back and dreams of having her treat, but he would never approach her and take it. Eventually she will get up and walk away, and he will snag it.

They're all good. I mean, there are grumbles when one walks up to the other intent on trying to take it but everyone behaves and I don't have issues. It's nice, I like it.

They're also completely cool with me doing anything to them or what they are eating so that's also nice.

The older dogs can chew on anything together and be fine. Fiona is fine with them with lower value stuff (antlers, empty marrow bones, etc) but will challenge over higher value chews so I have to keep an eye.

At my parent's house if I give a high valued long-lasting chew, Rigby goes behind a baby gate in the back hall and the other 3 are free to take theirs wherever.
With that set-up there's no issues.

At the apartment, with just Cobain and Rigby, they can be together just fine.

Even in the house, I'm sure there likely wouldn't be any issues if Rigby were to be left out. But with her food issues I don't want to take that chance if it isn't necessary.

We do have a variety of cleaned out bones around the house for them to chew on at will though and there's never an issue.

The boys can although I don't really like to do it; generally they are good about just keeping to themselves and not coveting thy neighbours bully stick. But I prefer to give everybody space and not put anybody in a situation where they might THINK somebody will steal their yummies. I don't want anybody touching my cookies either.

Pepper doesn't know how to chew high value things like bully sticks so I just put her away so she's not wandering around looking like a lost little bug while the boys happily enjoy stuff she can't really figure out.

Georgie isn't allowed around any of them because she WILL steal, and neither I nor the boys tolerate thieving of treats.

Hank and Mia will get into it over high value stuff so I separate them. Also everyone bulldozes poor Summer and takes her things so again I separate them. Because it's too sad to watch Summer get her chews taken away.

Yes, we feed the dogs together and their bowls are right next to each other in the kitchen. Teagan can take anything from Panzer, which she doesn't but sometimes she will eat out of Panzers bowl instead of hers and Panzer just waits.

Jack can be snarky around bones/chews/kongs but for some reason he's ok with Crossbone 97% of the time (and Crossbone has 3 scars for the other 3%). MOST of the time they go to opposite ends of the house by their own choosing (if Crossbone doesn't take it out and bury it right away) and when the first one finishes, I put it all away.

I posted this in Shen's picture thread

Dekka is chewing on a super gross (and on the bed!) bone.

I don't worry about them as Dekka is snark face from hades and Schen knows it. She is confident in her right to all things delicious so its not a big problem.

Pip: Noooooooooooooo

Maisy and Squash are fine around one another. They scheme and steal each other's stuff sometimes, and every once in a blue moon there is a noisy yet devoid of any substance kerfluffle, but generally they just mind their own business.

They're great! They all eat within 1 foot of each other with no problems, and I have no hesitation giving them bones/other chews together. I wouldn't leave them alone with them just in case but there's never been even the slightest issue. I wouldn't allow stealing or one dog hovering over another, but they don't really try in the first place. They're pretty good about just sticking with what's theirs and finding something else to do when they're done.

Happy & Juno chewing on bones... Juno likes to be close :p

Yes! All the dogs are fine together with them! There are sometimes some stolen bone occasions, though. Especially if Bruno finishes his (if it's finishable), then he'll go to one of the other dogs, whine for a while, and slowly start to paw it out of their paws. Otherwise the other three will just do the stare down and wait for whoever they are watching to move away from the treat to go in for the steal. :p But just eating bones all together and close, as I said, fine.

Bailey? No. Nope, nope, nope. She has to be behind a visual barrier in her old age. She used to be more easily manageable but as she's gotten older, she's gotten a lot less tolerant.

Gabby? She's fine. She occasionally grumbles but doesn't act on it. She'd rather move to a new spot with her chew than fight someone over it.

Mine are fine, but sometimes Bubbles is a jerk and tries to steal another if she finishes hers first. And Kimma does not like that, so there have been squabbles. Nothing serious, but I usually just let them eat good things like that in separate rooms. No sense in potentially causing an issue when I have space for them to be separated.

All my dogs have been fine with bones and food. I have lots of pictures of two or three of them all on the same dog bed chewing on their bones with no problem. I self-feed so as there is always food available, nobody bothers the others when they are eating.

Yes, my three share everything very well which is why I tend to have chews and toys strewn about the floor in my house. Those nylabones hurt like hell when you step on them in the dark.
