Question, why do some of you call it RAW in all caps?

Whenever I read it like that I imagine it like you are talking all normal and then roaring RAW!!! and then continuing in a normal tone.
LMAO I literally just spun my computer to Denis on the couch and asked that.

Wow.

I know BARF was because it stood for bones and raw foods but raw is just raw food, I think?

:rofl1: I asked Jes but she was useless. But yeah, I get BARF but I've never understood why some people say RAW instead of raw.

It won't let you post in all caps. Most people add something like "obligatory lowercase" in white at the end.

It really is habit for me. Just something I picked up from typing BARF. I didn't realize it irritated so many people. LOL

Yes, RAW is usually used to mean the actual raw food (usually prey model or franken prey) diet versus just the word raw...so saying a raw diet could mean raw food but RAW implies that you are doing raw meat, bones, organs, etc.

Back before it was commonly known it really helped differentiate and explain what you were talking about. Now that it is pretty well known its not needed as much, but still done by habit. Sometimes I type RAW, sometimes I type raw.

Q: What does Lady Gaga feed her dogs?
A: Rawww rawww RAW RAW RAWWW!

Okay, all silliness aside, I feed raw (RAW?? RAWWWW! *beats chest*) too. Mostly a beef mix, but they also get other yummies mixed in - chicken necks/wings/backs, eggs, and soon we'll be adding raw goats milk, a ground poultry mix with organs, and ground whole goat. Mealtime is EXCITING around here!

... still looking for an affordable source of pancreas, so I can switch Revy over to raw as well.

As for amounts....

Kaylee (63lbs) - 24oz/day
Jayne (80lbs) - 35oz/day
Talla (26lbs) - 15oz/day

... but I believe Rocket eats 60oz/day, and he's an 80lb intact male Doberman. Not uncommon.... intact male dobes seem to have the caloric intake requirements of Michael Phelps.

Nog eats premade raw. It's the only thing that keeps him from licking his feet.
The others get raw sporadically. I haven't found an affordable option to feed everyone raw food (be it premade or regular)yet.

I feed half raw (pork/bison/beef/rabbit) and half kibble (Canine Caviar GF Herring).

Frodo can't do premade like Nature's Variety/Stella and Chewys/Primal, I think it probably comes down to some veggies that don't agree with him.
So the only store bought premade we do is Bravo beef. Other than that we go to a local pet food deli that grinds muscle meat/bones/organs only. I would love to do prey model/frankenprey again, but I no longer have an easily accessible freezer for bulk (it lives with Megan for now :p) and beef/bison/rabbit/pork gets way more expensive than chicken with some variation here and there.

I can afford to do the ground pet food deli style because he eats a whopping 10-12 pounds a month if he is doing 100% RAAAAAAAAAAAWr. But with half raw I only need to buy one, 5 pound tub a month.

I never say RAW, lol, I've always just used raw. :p

How much per month would you say it takes to feed one of your dogs?
Well, by math....

Kaylee: roughly 45lbs/month ($17)
Jayne: roughly 65lbs/month ($25)
Talla: roughly 28lbs/month ($11)

That's JUST our beef mix which includes bone, muscle, organ and tripe. In addition to that, they all get 1-3 chicken feet per day, maybe a few chicken necks, maybe a couple chicken wings. Talla usually has a couple wings or a back, in addition to her beef mix. They all get 2-4 eggs a day, in addition. All our chicken (ground, wings, backs, feet) is 50 cents/lb, our eggs are $1.50/dozen, and our goats milk is $5/gallon. *shrug*

Also, I live in Southern LA, so hopefully hunting seasons will help me.
Louisiana ? LA ? I live in NOLA area . I do know some hunters around but I am not sure if they want to give up any kills? I could ask around if you would like.
Nice to meet you (i missed ya intro thread , ) ya dogs are beautiful.

I do not feed RAw , or really any good kibble , (hangs head) but Sheen does well on alright (it varies , i told chris which aisle he was allowed to buy food from at petsmart lol) kibble halfed with scraps from my family.
