Just curiosity...

Are they supposed to look like this?

I keep seeing dogs and show dogs looking like this. (A few, a lot of others look 'normal') Based on Fila pictures here (I don't think I've ever seen one stacked) I was aware the rear was high. I didn't think the legs were that short though. Let me guess, exaggerated show type? I saw some other obvious show pics where the dogs looked NOTHING like that. (I just did a google search for Fila)

Just curious of course.

They give me a google error message, but the third one works. Maybe my computer is just being weird. *shrugs*

And NOW they won't work here either. :(

Anyways, what I was trying to point out was topline and leg length. I was just wondering what a correct Fila looks like in a side view. There seemed to be a lot of variation in amount of upward slope to the rear and then some seem to have really really short legs compared to others.

Thank you. When I think fila, I get an overall impression that to me is more along the lines of this:

ETA: Is it just type difference? Different country's show lines? They don't even look the same breed to me.
Those are closer to what I want to see, Laurelin. There is so much dissension in the different camps . . . To me, and to the hardcore Fila lovers, what the dog looks like doesn't carry nearly as much weight as what the dog can - and will - do. Temperament, instinct, fearlessness, drive, ojeriza, intellect, ferocity, devotion, physical capability (speed, agility, strength), soundness . . . that is what makes a Fila a Fila, not measurements or looks.

When I think Fila, this is what comes to mind:

This guy is a ringer for Kharma's father, Gamble!

Is there a particular reason for the super high rear? It doesn't seem all that sound just from looking at it.

It's beyond sound, Laurelin . . . and it's a great part of what gives them their superior strength, speed and agility.

To put it into perspective: Kharma is as fast as - or faster than a large Doberman, and infinitely more agile. And not fragile. The difference in strength is, well . . . :rofl1:

Even more surprising, even to me, was finding out that she was faster than Tallulah, as well as more agile.

Think about what's required in a dog that not only herds wild cattle, but hunts JAGUAR!

True working line Filas also tend to be much longer lived than other giant breeds.
