Back to the vet with Bear

Bear looks like he's doing worse again. He's now got this odor coming from his face that is getting worse now. I noticed it on sunday and it wasn't bad so I thought maybe it was just the water and food his E collar was trapping around his neck in the fur. So I took it off and cleaned him up. Then yesterday I noticed he still smells. Today it's even worse.

I called the vet and he's got an appointment for today. I don't know what's going on now but I know that bad smells and wounds are not good. The vet was nice enough to work me in today since she's booked up until next monday. And I'm not waiting that long. So as soon as my husband leaves work and brings me the car, I'll be headed up there to find out what else we need to do now. He has one day left of antibiotics and he's been on them for 2 weeks now. So it probably shouldn't be smelling like it is. It's hard to describe but it turns my stomach and you can smell it from a couple feet away from him.

So if you have any good thoughts and vibes left, send some my way in hopes this isn't anything big and it's still treatable. The vet talked about surgery if it didn't improve by now.

Poooooor Bear!!! Sounds like a secondary infection. I sure hope this passes quickly. Bear needs a string of happy days with no sore nose!

I am very worried too. The appointment is in 3 hours but as soon as my husband gets here with the car I'm leaving to head to the vet. It sucks sharing a car and If I could drive the truck I'd be there already. I hope it's nothing too serious and I've already checked his ears to see if maybe he had an ear infection. His ears are clean and have no odor.

I'm sorry. Poor Bear needs a break. Sending good vibes and wishes...

Wow I just noticed this thread. Waiting for an update. Poor Bear. Sending lots of good vibes your way.

Back from the vet with not much of an update. He's got some bacteria and yeast growing on his nose and that's what is causing the smell. I got more antibiotics for him. Vet said his nose doesn't look better actually it's getting worse so they did a biopsy on his nose to see what else could be going on with him. I won't get those results until friday or saturday. He's lost 7 lbs in less than 2 weeks which also has them concerned since he is eating just not as much as he was. He's not as interested in food as he was. They did some blood tests and nothing came back unusual and everything looked good.

The vet said that his wounds on his nose are spreading out across his nose which makes her think something else is wrong besides the ant bites. Ant bites don't spread and whatever he has is. If I don't hear anything by friday I have to call and see if they got test results. So I'll be sitting on tacks for the next couple days and praying it's nothing serious. At this point they don't see him having long term issues but we won't know for sure until the biopsy comes back. This doesn't look like it will affect his vision at all since the part that is causing concern is the bridge of his nose. As soon as I hear something I'll post another update.

Make him some of Bimmer's cookies And satin balls! Those will help keep his weight up where it needs to be.

This is so puzzling !!! I know the smell ..... I could tell when my husband had an infection before he knew it ! I feel for you !!! I can handle black and white , but not grey ! (((( Hugs )))).

Poor Bear!! Poor you. You must be so worried. That's a lot of weight to lose, too.

I am extremely worried and not knowing what is going on is the worse. The hardest part is waiting and that's all I can do at this point. Sit and wait and watch him to make sure he's not getting worse. It sucks!

Poor Bear. We'll all worry with you until Friday. He probably doesn't want to eat cause his face hurts. I know if my face hurt I wouldn't want to eat much either. ((hugs))
