‘Bionic’ vet gives pets new limbs

This is way too interesting to not post:

?Bionic? vet gives pets new limbs - thestar.com

"Mitzi, a German Shepherd from Dorset, England lost one of her rear paws after being trampled on by a horse. Since her paw was too damaged to salvage, Mitzi’s owners sought help in vet Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick who gave the dog a new artificial paw. "

That is just the part under the picture. This article deserves a read.

I don't know. I seems like they'd do fine without prosthetics. Generally if the leg is amputated and lower than mid-thigh the stump tends to break open. Same reason front legs are generally amputated at the shoulder (take the whole leg, shoulder blade and everything, off), because otherwise you have problems with the stump.

I can see it being good for dogs that already have problems in the opposing limb that would make being 3-legged hard.
